TexasBlues
hey folks- I have purchased some jewelers wire in several guages and want to use them as wiring harnesses and brake lines... its soft enough to bend with my fingers, but its not copper... i think it may be aluminum or something of the sort... is there any prep involved before painting? i am going to paint it with enamels i read somewhere here that white metal should be soaked in vinegar to provide a tooth... is this true and should i do it with my wire as well? any suggestions are appreciated! see ya at the nats! its in MY hometown!! volzj
You should be OK. I paint aluminum, copper etc.. al the time with acrylics and haven't hada problem with adhesion. Enamels should be fine with no prep work too.
The Migrant
I've started using Tamiya's Metal Primer, it's a clear spray that (presumably) gives paint something to adhere to. Seems to work just fine for normal handling of metal parts, though I doubt it would stand up to heavy scraping.

redruffensore
It's more than likely aluminum, it's also found at craft stores and sold as aluminum beading thread. Acrylics are the best choice, but the paint (any paint) might peel unless the wire is pre-bent. Caz
