New Forum Initiation...

Recommended Posts

I think this forum will prove to be very helpful. Especially with the new influx of 1/48th scale armor (and hopefully soon trucks/jeeps, etc) from Tamiya!

More than ever we can begin to think "outside" the box!! ;)

Below is a diorama I originally entered in the Atlanta Nat'ls back in the early 90's.

I think it got either a 2nd or 3rd. Can't remember!

It's in 1/72 scale.

The Viking is held up by a steel rod that goes about 3/4 of the way into the Tomcat.

The ships are white metal.

Cheers!

How did you make the re-fueling line and basket??

Regards

Craig

The rod is built into the Tomcat. It's bent where the basket is to simulate the probe. Then goes into the left wing refueling pod on the S3. I just painted the rod black where its supposed to look like the hose and white where its the probe!

I have it so I can disassemble the whole thing by sliding the rod out of the S3 and then the F14 slides off the acrylic rod. The wall the rods come out of is also removeable.

The basket is just a ring with small diameter wire glued around it.

The really hard parts were building the 'cat with this long steel rod sticking out of it! Originally it was about 3 ft long! Until I decided how much distance it should be. Major pucker factor when it came time to cut it to length! The other challenge: Inside the S3 pod is a piece of square metal. And then on the rodend is a smaller square piece that slides into it. I had to figure out the angle that it needed to be so when the weight of the Viking settled it was somewhat level! :D :P :D

Like I said earlier... :monkeydance: :)
