Thinning Floquil?

Recommended Posts

I tried thinning Reffer white, with both Laquer thinner (big can) and MM airbrush thinner, both made the airbrush sputter like the paint wasnt being disolved properly and the liquid in the cup was inconsistent (best way I can discribe it). Yet the laquer thinner seems to disolve it on contact, (even when dried for a while).

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I routinely thin Floquil reefer white with lacquer thinner with no problem. I thin it to the consistency of milk. Most Floquil paints are thin enough already so not much is needed. I've found it dries faster using the lacquer thinner. Mineral spirits work as well but the drying time is a bit longer.

You may want to check the pressure you're spraying at. It sounds like it might be too low. Try around 20psi (what I use).

Mike,

I use the Floquil airbrush thinner on both floquil paints and MM enamels and I have had good results. BTW, I really like that reefer white for my Navy paint jobs!

PS.... We should get together and talk models and drink some beers!
