Rapier01 Posted September 1, 2007 Share Posted September 1, 2007 (edited) If you mean the bumps on the sides of the jet... the F-35 has what is called a divererless inlet. The bump replaces the diverter that is normally found on a jet - the small gap between the inlet and fuselage- the bump does the same job except its lighter and cheaper to build while stealthier while still diverting the turbulent boundary layer as efficently as before.
