Moose135
After taking care of some business this morning, I grabbed some lunch and headed over to a local park/beach. After a while, heard sirens, and saw an Nassau County (NY) Police helicopter circling overhead. Was going to grab a quick shot of it, when I realized they were getting ready to land in the adjacent Long Island Rail Road station parking lot, so I headed on over. Turned out to be Nassau's newest Bell 407 landing for a Medevac pickup. Prepping for the patient's arrival: Loading the patient: Preparing for takeoff: A dusty departure:

Iron Eagle
Wow! That's the first time I've seen a police department ambulance (the vehicle).
Moose135
Great shots! That's Oyster Bay, right? You are correct, sir! I live in Syosset, btw. Nice photos ! ;) Expecially the last one.... could show the teamwork of ground and air rescue,.... I like them I appreciate that, especially from a guy with "Medevac" as a User ID! Wow! That's the first time I've seen a police department ambulance (the vehicle). Nassau County PD is one of the better equipped departments around. In Nassau, EMS services are provided by a mix of police ambulances (with AMT/Paramedic training) and volunteer (mostly) fire department ambulances.
Iron Eagle
Interesting... thanks for the info. So these are regular police officers who also carry firearms?
Moose135
Interesting... thanks for the info. So these are regular police officers who also carry firearms? It's a mix - some are civilian ambulance technicians (the guy in the tan shirt & green pants in the 4th photo) and some are regular officers (who wear normal dark blue uniforms & are armed). The guy on the far right in the lighter blue shirt is from the Emergency Services Section - looked like a couple of ESS guys responded on this. The aircrew of the helo are cops...and they sure do carry guns. I installed a few phone lines for their facility at what used to be Grumman in Bethpage...I was escorted everywhere I went by an armed police officer. I wasn't allowed to go anywhere near the helicopters, but they did let me park outside the fence and watch some take-offs and landings. I was amazed how smoothly the pilots could land the helos on the trailers they use to ferry them around the facility. When I was there, I noticed that most of the guys wearing flightsuits were at least Detectives. Its a great job to be a Nassau County cop as it is...they're some of the highest paid cops in the country, but to score the aviation gig must be heaven!

ReiRei0
Wow - who knew that the real reason you should always wear clean underpants is that someday not only might you be in an accident, but someone might come along, take pictures of you being medevacked on a popular modeling website...
