Loach Driver
Mike, I have found that the best way to get the decals you want made by a manufacturer is to go out and research the markings yourself! I am guessing that most decal manufacturers, especially those that deal in the rotary-wing end of the market, are part-time, one-man operations that are often an extension of that person's interest in scale modeling. This has been my experience; I struck up a conversation with a certain decal manufacturer at a show last November. He expressed an interest in doing markings for a colourful civil helicopter that I thought would never feature on a decal sheet. I explained that I knew someone who worked at that helicopter company and could probably arrange a visit to photograph that helicopter and its markings. Having eventually got the green light from the State agency that leases the helicopter and has its crest on it, I have arranged a visit to photograph this helicopter in the coming week. I will photo and measure the markings on the helicopter and then forward them to the decal manufacturer. This sheet is a long way off from going into production and will hopefully have other helicopters included, but in the end the effort will be worth it. I am researching other, much older helicopters from this company and I hope these will end up on the sheet ae well. The Operations Manager of this helicopter company is delighted with the interest being shown in his machines and is doing a lot to help with this project. If there is a heli you absolutely have to have in your collection, ask the decal manufacturers if they will do it if you do the research and get the photos. My experience has been that helicopter operators, military and civil, will do all they can to help you, once you explain who you are and what it is you want to do. You also get a chance to get a good look at your favourite heli and take all the photos you want. I know this only counts if you are near the helicopter you want but if you can get to it, give this approach a try. Hope this helps. Loach Driver.
