otis252
Hey Guys, Need some help. I picked up the Accurate Minitures P-51B #3418. Looks pretty nice, but I've got a few questions. The kit contains 2 cockpits, a "one piece" affair with a flat floor and a multiple piece cockpit witha curved floor. Why two? Also, 2 sets of cockpit side walls. Again why, different versions, maybe? What else do I need to look out for on this kit? Not much of a Mustang guy, but always liked this version. How does this kit compare to the Tamiya kit. Thanks for any tips and help. Chuck I believe the P-51B kits shares some parts sprues with their Allison engine Mustang kits and the extra floor and sidewalls are leftovers from the other kit. The flat floor should be for the Merlin engine and the curved floor (which was actually the top of the wing) is for the Allison engine. Use the parts the instructions tell you to use. otis252
Thanks Dave. Any other tips or things to look out for? Chuck
Dave Williams
IIRC, the wings are carried over from the P-51A kit and lack the fairings on top of the wings in front of the ailerons that were fitted to the -B and later wings.
Modelmkr
Also, with Accurate Miniatures kits, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY. Thier kits are a bit of a fussy build but you should have no issues if you don't put things together out of order from the instruction sheet. Thier P-51 kits are a bit more forgiving, but their more complicated kits (IL-2, SBD, TMB) will give you grief if you stray from ther recommended assembly order.
