x3mperformance
I got my Red-box Airfix Space shuttle yesterday. And i use it as a testbed and a trainer for me, myself & I to learn some basics about tecniques with glue, putty, Evergreen, decals etc. So this build is not to be any exact copy or replica. You are hereby warned. But i build a intrepertation of a shuttle with what materials i have. And it can go as an review of the kit aswell. First of all. The ET. I started off with the External Tank. It is made of 5 pieces, and the fit is far better than on my Monogram 1/72 (???) I actually managed to get i decent together, not to use a ton of putty. I had however, to use some skills to restrain myself, and just glue a section at a time. The result is rather good. Se the Pictures for better view. Pictures taken after light sanding (grit 400 Wet) to show better on Pictures. Decent glueing!!! The Intertank is raised, and the nose needs some putty. The other side of the Intertank and nose. The worste side, still easy to manage to a good result. Good side after putty. Worst side after putty The Airfix model, is stated to be the best ET, recording to Space In Miniature #3 (SIM3) But the Intertank is raised, and is thought to be decaled to look as the business... I choose to go with some Evergreen strips. Ahh, a lot of strips... The strips used are .010" x .040" [uS] 0.25 x 1.0 mm ([EU] NOTE. This is not to scale... I have cut Down the attachment for the feed line, to get a better scale look. But everything is made with eyeballing as the sharpest messurement. Rene'

I will have to come to a really good result. But thanks. And i aggre, learning by doing is the only way. Sorry for my in accuracy and stuepid errors, in advance. Critics are welcome, as long as they are constructive. Rene'
spaceman
Hi Rene', nice start with the detailing of the intertank by using Evergreen strips instead of the poor Airfix decals. Will you also indicate the Insta foam structure of the insulation by a texturing? Edited August 28, 2013 by spaceman

This as a testbed for my Monogram 1/72 project. So since the texture is gone alredy, i need new ways of doing so.
