F4DPhantomII
Thanks. I plan on using the Tamiya 1/48 kit to build one.
Bigasshammm
From what I've been told when I asked the question. Year or two ago no. Same specs just different designation.

Diamondback Six
The differences between various batches are very subtle, even from the same manufacturer. Bert Kinzey's F4U Corsair in Detail and Scale is likely to be your best friend here.
don f
Here's some info ref. FG-1D v. F4U-1D Interesting discussion here at ARC Click Images of unrestored FG-1D Click Using the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1D kit you may want to make these changes as appropriate: - Fill in the outer wing panel fuel filler caps located on the upper outer wing panel "D" leading edge section. The F4U-1D was a dry wing a/c. - Remove the raised circular and oval shapes on the underside of the outer wing panel "D" leading edge section. These were associated with the outer wing panel tanks installed on the early versions. - Fill in the landing light on the underside of the outer wing panel. - Fill in the rectangular opening in the right wing center section flap. Some state that late production FG-1D a/c had the flap step or the step was covered with a spring loaded door. Maybe someone can produce a WWII era image that clearly shows the flap with step installed on an FG-1D. - If installing the rocket pylons, fill in the fabric representation on the underside of the wing outer panel flap to simulate a metal cover. The rocket blast was not kind to the fabric covering. The wing area under the rocket pylon plates were covered with metal skinning. - No window under the fuselage. - Some FG-1D a/c did not have the rudder antenna post. The antenna wire attached to the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer, similar to the later F4U-4. The antenna lead-in was on the left side of some a/c. - May not be important to you but the Tamiya F4U-1D cockpit has some features of the F4U-1A. - Consider fixing the circular backfire valves on the underside behind the cowl flaps to look like this: - Get Ultracast F4U-1 wheels and raised wing flaps if you want raised flaps. Images above from the Ultracast website Click The Ultracast Corsair seats and exhausts are nice. Other details that I have missed. Maybe others will fill in. and......... Canopies, rocket stubs and props do not have anything to do with the change in designation. All of these were introduced during -1D production. The differences were the -1D did away with the inner wing tanks, and added two pylons under the stub wings. It was felt the a/c could carry enough fuel with one or two drop tanks, and the wing tanks were not needed. Here are the changes by BuAer: BuAer Builder Desig. Change 57356 Vought F4U-1D Change to 13'1" Hamilton Standard Paddle Blade Prop 57583 Vought F4U-1D Change to Frameless Canopy 82253 Vought F4U-1D Addition of 5" Rocket Stubs 76149 Goodyear FG-1D Change to 13'1" Hamilton Standard Paddle Blade Prop 87788 Goodyear FG-1D Addition of 5" Rocket Stubs Now I need to find the BuAer Goodyear changed to the frameless canopy.... The differences between a Goodyear Corsair and Vought Corsair were mainly in production techniques but were subtle. What the original poster doesn't ask or specify is if the FG-1 is an A or D.
