Space Tiger Hobbes
Is Testors 1172 Flat Sea Blue in the little square bottle the same as 35042 for WWII tri-color Navy schemes?

Chriss7607
I know what you're talking about. Personally, I think it's a little too light. If you wanted to go for a faded effect, it might work. I still prefer Model Master non-specular sea blue for just about all USN/USMC subjects from WWII.
Space Tiger Hobbes
Thanks. I'd prefer it, too. If it were still available. Unfortunately, it wasn't among the handful of colors that Testors retained when they cancelled most of the MM line.
Space Tiger Hobbes
A slightly different google search yields this discussion: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/model-master-non-specular-sea-blue-fs-5402-t191127.html
Chriss7607
Well darn! I didn't know that the MM paint was discontinued. There is the Tamiya paint color "Navy Blue" which would be more along the lines of what you're looking for. I have it in the spray, and they do make it in the smaller bottle as well. It is a flat paint and does look the part. I don't have the exact Tamiya numbers off hand but that might get you going in the right direction.
Space Tiger Hobbes
I will check that out. Not my first choice to mix acrylic with my existing enamels on a model.
Chriss7607
I don't think it's acrylic. I don't know whether the stuff in the can is laquer or enamel. I also don't know about the stuff in their round bottles. I thought the bottles were enamel but I could be mistaken.
Charlie D.
The stuff in the spray cans is lacquer. I’ve used the Tamiya navy blue rattle can on several builds, looks close enough to me!
