Dai The late new tool kits, like the SB2C, Me410, and Do217, that Monogram released near the end of the Promodeler line were good, but really not much better than kits like the Dragon 1/48 Ju-88 and Hasegawa P-38 (both released under the Promodeler label), which were released years earlier. Basically, in the end Monogram finally got up to to the level of other “big” model manufacturers of the 90s.
Charlie D.
ProModeller F-86D, F-84, both very nice kits, especially the Sabre! Round 2 still does kit design in the USA (at least their sci-fi stuff) but they cut metal overseas. They also do limited runs here in the states, not every kit is shot in China. Look for their “made in the USA labeling” on certain boxes. Moebius used to do design work stateside and production overseas, I don’t know what they do now since Pegasus took over though, they keep stuff closer to their chest, but they’ve also been very active with new kits. Monarch is pretty much a one man show, but he does all design here in the USA and production overseas. Atlantis does all production here, and some mold work here, mainly in repairs and making new molds for missing parts or damaged molds for reissues. They’ve also ventured into new material as well. Their “Metaluna Mutant” is all new. No where near as much in the hey day but still some done stateside. Atlantis has mentioned they’d like to do more new stuff, but that costs $$$, so support them where you can.
