Grey Ghost 531
I finally finished my P-3. Here's some pics of it I took at GraniteCon where it was judged good enough for a 2nd place plaque in the small scale multi-prop catagory. http://img375.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc034217ku.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9458/dsc034227gy.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/2995/dsc034230ck.jpg To the very basic, ancient Revell kit I added a scratch built cockpit, weapons bay, sonobouy tubes, propellers, wheel wells and glazing. Sanded off the rivets and rescribed. I had to use the kit decals as there aren't any after market 1/110 scale P-3 markings available... A lot of the work was done before I had any good references (or even before the internet existed!!!) so there is a bunch of stuff I guessed at and got incorrect. O well. The Migrant
That looks like a lot of work, but there's no way you'd recognise it as the old Revell kit. Very impressive. What kind of paint did you use for the white finish?
Grey Ghost 531
Thanks guys! Ken, I was very happy to get the 2nd, there were some nice kits there and my hopes weren't very high. Mike, the white is either Boyd's primer white or Boyd's header white by Testors. They may very well be exactly the same thing with different labels. I didn't have any Floquil Reefer white on hand when I painted it. I have now, that's what the Harpoons are painted with. The Boyd's is almost as good at covering as the Floquil and doesn't smell quite so bad. It had no problem covering the mix of white plastic, 3M Acryl Blue and Mr. Surfacer with just a few coats. I wish I'd known the trick of putting a few drops of blue in as it looks kind of dingy in person after all the handling during finishing and a few coats of varnish. We'll just call it, "weathering"!
