drhornii
I have seen some A-7D's in the USAF inventory (two tone gray, early 1990's) with a black radome and some with the 36118 radome color. Did they go to the gray radome color at he end of its service in the early 1990? Also, there is a black outline on the fwd part of the tail. looks like a dialectric panel or antenna but the same thing on that panel, did it get painted over to the camo colors? the ref pictures of the "gate guards" show gray radome and the black showing through the gray camo on the tail. I was not sure if they were being lazy when painting the jets or if that is the way they were when retired from Tulsa in 1993. I am trying to dig up refrence pictures of the Tulsa ANG A-7D just about retirement times.
habu2
The "sigma" on the leading edge is in fact an antenna. Don't know about the radome history....
jmel
The radome color was left up to the units. Some chose to paint gray with the camo, while some chose to paint it high-gloss black. Jake
