Airfix Club Supermarine Spitfire MkXVIe kit in 1:48

Recommended Posts

Has anyone seen the exclusive Airfix Club Kit is the Supermarine Spitfire MkXVIe kit in 1:48 scale? Is it a new kit or a reboxing of someone elses kit?

It's a new part of the 1:48 Spitfire family.

It used a lot of sprues from the other new 1.48 kits.

I was thinking of starting this very thread this morning when I read the airfix newsletter post that mentioned it. Not much other information out there about it, a few on ebay UK for sale. I just hoping the kit hits the open market sooner or later, as a regular release.

The Club Edition Mk XVI utilises the same parts as the IX/XVI kit with the exception of the low back fuselage. The tooling for both fuselages was done when the kits were first planned, as the old management had always intended to release both at some time. If you have a MkIX/XVI in your stash or have built one you will know exactly what to expect. As it is the Ltd Edition kit exclusive to members during 2008 it would seem likely that a re-box with alternative colour schemes will occur after next December, but precisely when is anybody's guess.

Yes it is the lowback fuselage that is the key to this kit. With so few options for this type in 1:48, warts and all I certainly am looking forward to seeing one up close and personal someday.

I've got mine right on my desk, it's a lovely little model from looking at the parts inside the bags, (I don't want to open them yet) I can't see anything wrong with it at the moment. The only disappointing aspect of it that I can see is the decals, the sheet I have is unusable, all the individule decals have a smudge on the right side of each one, I think this has to down to whoever is supplying the decals as my Falklands Vulcan set and the Falkland Collection set (of six aircraft) also have this same problem.

For me though I'm not too worried about my Spitfire as I have got some aftermarket decals done by CanMilAir for it: http://www.canmilair.com/products.asp?cat=38&pg=10

I have written to Airfix about three weeks ago but as of yet I've had no acknowledgement of my email, let alone some explaination. Also where it is advertized as having three pots of Acrylic paint included, mine only came with two, also mentioned in my email to Airfix.
