  1. Some good gimp tutorials here as well as many others which relate to creating aircraft profiles and texturing flight sim aircraft http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/forums/forum35-gimp/
  2. Never had any problems with gunze flat either. I stir all my paints thoroughly before use though.
  3. On another forum, this link was posted and recommended. http://www.decalpaper.com/ They have paper for both inkjet and laserjet. I personally haven't had any experience with this yet but am about to order some and have a go at making my own decals for Academy's 48th scale P38E as I can't find anyone who makes decals for this kit and the ones that come in the kit are atrocious.
  4. For 48th scale I would go with Tamiya Masking tape. For buckles you can make them from fine fuse wire available in electrical areas of hardware stores or electronic shops and wrap it around a piece of plastic to form the shape.
  5. Thats a beauty Tim. Being a Aussie its great to see someone doing paintings of the RAAF in action.
  6. Ahh thankyou for that Triarius. For a satin finish he suggests 1 part flat to 15 parts future....perfect thanks ! He says don't clean up your airbrush with Windex due to gumming so Maybe I should use just hot water. I usually clean airbrushes of Tamiya acrylics with Methalyated Spirits. PS I do have some rather old X-21 as I don't use it much so will invest in a new bottle of the stuff.
  7. Just getting back into scale modelling and am wondering if anyone knows the mixing ratios of Future and Tamiya X-21 Flat Base to achieve a finish that is somewhere between matt and semigloss finish for aircraft. I don't like dead flat finishes but would like to get something with a slight sheen which I think looks more realistic.
  8. Looks like your off to a great start. Nice going.
  9. Thanks Holmes, glad you liked it. I try to capture the feeling of being there amongst the bomber formation.
  10. Thanks Art. Hehe, can't hurt to try.
  11. Hi Here is a new cg image I've created using 3DS Max and Photoshop showing Vickers Wellington's Mk.1c in flight.
  12. Thanks Gray I learned a lot from doing this painting, which all helps on the next one.
  13. Thanks AS and Niart. Niart Painter is a great program when it comes to replicating real media. Painter Essentials 4 is very good too and may be all you need and a lot cheaper. Mark Karvon does all his work with Essentials and Photoshop.
  14. Cheers Omar. I'm finding that it easiest to paint the aircraft in Photoshop and the backgrounds in Corel Painter which is how this piece was done. Photoshop has good tools for painting detail that is apparent on a aircraft while painter is great for clouds, sky and landscapes and oceans. I'm still very much going through a learning phase with these new tools after doing quite a bit of 3D digital work over the last few years. You can view most of my 2D and 3d works here.
  15. Here is a digital painting I've just completed of the Bell X1
