  1. Oh yeah and no after market gear for me. My baby will be presented the only way a jet should be shown......up up in the air! If you wonder about the missing crew for that endeavour.....well.....just keep wonderng a little longer, hehehe!
  2. Nope, no manufactured decals for me. I don't think I will ever build such a huge Tomcat again so fast so this baby has to be a very special one being near and dear to me and thanks to Dave Brown and André Jans I got enough data to do my own decals of the bird I want to depict. Not yet telling which one but it was also part of the last batch of Tomcats left in 2006 but since I want to put at least one Phoenix on my baby final days markings are no option for me since the Phoenix was already retired at that time so I have to go for some pretty and not all too common nineties version of my darli
  3. I don't know if ever anyone of you realized (I#m quite sure many of you are well aware) but depending on the angle of the light shining on the canopy one could see that half the windshield had either some anti glare coat applied or a special hardening resulting in different reflections of the green glass. The D's had that as well despite the HUD. I tried tosimulate the effect but am not too happy with it yet and possibly will rework that later on, but so far that is the max I was able to achieve. It's not all that well to see but as I said it depends on the angle of light and is barely visible
  4. Thanks all for the kind words!!! Well at least for me the cockpit is quite the challenge. In 1/18 I have at least the ambition to make it as authentic as possible and I must admit that is quite the challenge esspecially if my other plans on the cockpit are to work out (Not telling anymore yet!). Faaaaaaaaar from being done here so have mercy! No colors applied yet and as said still a long way to go: The PC-covers need quite some thinning out and the late D's have had some alterations that need to be considered. Again waaaaaaayyyyyyy to go.
  5. HiHi, na danke für die Erinnerung! bin schon dabei! ^_^
  6. Great explanations. I can follow giving Atlantic wings the letter "A" as fist part of the tailcodes like "A for Atlantic" but why the heck an "N" for pacific wings instead of an at least in my eyes more logical "P". Does anyone have a clue what the "N" actually stands for? There's no N in Pacific. Hope I'm not embarrassing myself now.
  7. I asked "Turk" Pentecost on this subject, he was one of VF-1's pilots on their first and second cruise. he's also a member of the F-14 association so you might also ask him directly via their channels again but according to what he remembers: They indeed also carried some Phoenix occassionally. Definitely no drop tanks (the ones with the winglets) They had them packed but they weren't used since the winglets kept the tanks just that tad of a second too long in the air after a potential drop to damage the ventral strakes. According to him a standard load out of 2 AIM-54's, two Sparrows and t
  8. Bought those "second grade" nozzles too for my big kitty but will rather stick to the ones I scratched as the ones I got are waaaayyyyyy to big in diameter and somehow "stick quite out" of the engine covers. Guess if I really want to use them I would have to massively sand them down at their front end and rescribe everything but doing them scratch from metal parts was the easier way. You had the same problem? Can't really see it on the shots. Fantastic kitty!!!!! Will keep watching!
  9. Yes i know it's an older thread but just had to dig it out. Does anyone have that Kit with the Fallon-Tomcat? Can anyone post a scan of the decal sheet or can anyone pass on the names of the crew and what's written on the gear doors? Unimportant whether it flew like this or not is DOES look quite beautiful. Maybe I can rework this for a nice 1/72 build?! She was definitely kept this way for a little time. Here is a shot of her in Fallon with the sprayed canopy and preped as the gate guard she is now in these colors. http://www.aero-web.org/database/museums/g...age.htm?id=5354 really reall
  10. Yes I know I'm becoming quite the PIA with my almost daily questions but please bear with me a little longer. Does have anyone good detail pics or at least some info on Super Hornet 166451 of VX-9 Vampires. I'm talking about crew and maintainer names again. I asked google and got a few pics but nothing that lets me read the names. Thanks again.
  11. Oooookaaaaay, thanks a ton Holmes. has been a language problem (non-American), just couldn't start anything with the phrase. Thanks again and sorry for the mis-understanding!
  12. Hi again, and here's another Tomcat question for the pro's: Does anyone have e ref pic or any info where that "Kate's Nickel"-emblem was on JR's Tomcat 161435? I heard it's rather short-lived. Can any one help.
  13. Hey guys, can anyone help with the crew names on the canopy and the maintainer names on the gear bay door of Tomcat 163902 alias AJ-107 during the official final flight at the sunset ceremony? Seems there has been a renaming since the last homecoming in March 06. I'd also be looking for the crew and maintainer names on 164345 alias AJ-104 during her last days before she went to the boneyard. Thanks for the help folks.
  14. typical TPS colors as far as I know FLIR is o.k. all the way, No Phoenix! went out of service already in 2005. 'Winders are o.k., maybe also Sparrows but not all too often seen in her last year but lots and lots of bombs.
  15. Thanks Holmes, I know these but its not quite what I am looking for. 164341 had some writings on her last flight in Sept- 06 and was in AJ-112 markings. I just thought someone here on the board would still have the shots of that old thread somewhere and could help out. :P But thanks you for the effort nonetheless. :P
  16. Hey guys, a few years back Member RipVW posted some pics of Tomcat 164341 and her last touchdown at AMARG. Unfortunately the pics are gone and I found the thread too late. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....0&hl=164341 I already tried to contact him directly but sadly no reaction. This Tomcat is quite near and dear to me. It was the last one I saw and could say goodbye to. Does anyone still have some of these pics or know where I could get them? It would be a great help! Fightertown has issued the decals for Felix-112 including the option of her last flight. There are some
  17. Hehehehe, thanks a lot Brian but aaaaalready ordered together with the VF-31 sheet and has aaaaaaalready long arrived save and sound. Absolutely fantastic decals and as always an outstanding service might I say!!!!! Actually your new VF-213 sheet is the very reason I am asking. After receiving those great decals I actually had everything I needed to DIY the necessary decals for Lion 101 or later 201 in addition to your sheet. I want to build all the versions your sheet offers PLUS 164341 PLUS 164341 in 101 and 201 colors as well as 161159 in Gate uard colors. The only problem I just had wh
  18. Thanks a ton fasteagle. Strange, I was too stupid to find these last two shots. Well is as it is, I'm just a tool.
  19. Thanks a lot mhoupt. I already tried all the jet photo picture sites I know of but nothing quite helps me get the crew names. I already thought about contacting Dave directly but I already bothered him so often and I know he's pretty busy with his current book project. Thanks a lot anyway. :)
  20. Already said it back "in Germany": Out-freakin'-standin'!!!!! After 20 years of a break it looks way better than what some do after being 20 years actively engaged in the hobby. "Dein Insekt ist ein absolutes Sahnestück geworden!"
  21. Hello guys, I would love to build a Tomcat quite special to me, namely 164341 but not in "her" last "dress" of VF-31 but in the colors "she" had during the Oceana Airshow 2004 when I saw "her" the first time. She was with VF-213 at that time and had the modex 101 which was later changed to 201. I unfortunately got no photo that allows me to properly decypher the crew names on the canopy and the nose gear door. Everything I got is somehow blurred. Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance!
  22. Absolutely no problem, mate! I'm just happy I at least know what happened to "her" and have some pics i can add to the dio. Thanks again for the great help. Really seems a little like fate.
