  1. If anybody has a hacked up kit or smashed up doner model, I need the fuselage halves for another project. Drop me a PM- Will pay or trade- up to you. Thanks! -Mike
  2. I agree with what Kursad recommended to you- I work as a composites engineer and use a software program called Fibersim to do exactly what you asked, flatten out a 3D shape into a 2D pattern. Of course there are other considerations to a compsite laminate than just a 2D pattern......Point being, even with this expensive software, after many gyrations and iterations and gnashing of teeth.....There are still complex shapes that I will break out the butcher paper and tape and create the flat pattern because the software can't. I would also recommend sectioning the decal rather than trying to
  3. Scott did me right with the 1/32 kit I purchased from him- Good communication, fast service, well packaged! Thanks!
  4. I recenlty picked up another collection of kits that has a bunch of ESCI/AMT Skyraiders and a couple of the Matchbox E's all in one box. There are multiple variants of the ESCI kits. The kits are "bagged builder kits" with the parts off the sprues. I have verified they are complete with the exception of pilots and sometimes ordinance. I can clarify that with any requests. There are also two resin sets (Cobra?) for the matchbox E's These are all 1/48th scale. I build 1/72 scale and would like to pick up one or two of the Hasegawa kits (a Navy and an AF bird) My hopes are that there is
  5. Scott- I will take the X-15 if availible- just tried your email link and it was retuned as undeliverable- will try again in a bit Thanks- Mike
  6. Muchas Gracias Jennings- Just the sort of info I was looking for. And I just passed on a glue-bomb AMT KC-135 for $5 that would have been ideal to cut the nose from! Double Dang! I plan to get this kit underway shortly- Thanks for the help.
  7. Dang- Yours looks nice enough to me, Thanks for the warning.
  8. I originally made a request for suggestions of how to improve a couple of Aurora airliners... I have a Monogram 1/72 737 that I picked up cheap that I would like to make moderate modifications on to improve the asthetics of the kit once it is sitting on the shelf of my 1/72 collection. I am Looking for what fixes others have done on this SPECIFIC kit. I wanted to pull my post out of the mire and see if there was some freindly advice- Thanks in advance! The following is clipped out of my previous post: I tried to accurize the nose area - so is this just a shaping issue? did you reshape to
  9. I tried to accurize the nose area - so is this just a shaping issue? did you reshape to a print? lengthened the fuselage (the model is kind of a -100 -do you have any specific dimensions? I found one site where someone was building a T-43 and showed an extention behind the wings- I have an idea of what needs to be done there. changed the wing tips -How So? moved the vertical stabilizer a bit forward -How much? added parts to the engines for more of a -200 look -I plan on resin replacements. modified the wing root area (which still isn't quite right), Could you describe your change? I
  10. To cmhjets re: the photo of the Delta Bird- Fist off- thanks for actually posting regarding my original post. I wasn't sure I would ever get any responses with the urinal sword fight taking place on my hijaked post. That looks nice! I would be very happy to have something like that in my collection! What were the fixes you did for that? Thanks- Mike
  11. Thanks for the answer- I am not looking to have a gnats-*** accurate show model, but I would like to make any obvious and/ or moderately complex modifications to make it look good in my case with the rest of my 72 collection. Really thinking of doing the Janet Airways 737-200. So what are the modificaions that need to be made to the 1/72 Monogram/Aurora 737 to make it a reasonable representation of a -200? I spent $7 on this kit, Will probably get the resin engines and the Draw Decals, not wanting to spend a lot more on the build but would like to know what is availible so I can look for i
  12. I second this- If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, wait for the 40% off any 1 item coupon that is usually every other week, get your Iwata airbrush for 60-90 bones with the coupon. Harbor Freight (not sure if you have one near you) has little pancake compressors on sale for $39.95 this week. They already have a regulator on them so all you need is a moisture trap to hook up your airbrush. Granted that Harbor Frieght isn't top quality but for $40.....
  13. I sadly arrived at that dissapointment yesterday as I was searching around for information on it! When I was looking at it to buy it....it looked out of scale to the 737 I was buying, but certainly not 144! Live and learn.....at least this was a cheap lesson!
  14. Thanks for the tip on the resin engines- the kit ones are pretty lame. I like to make kits as accurate as I can, so the accuracy issues do interest me (I don't know anything about problems with these kits). But if it looks like a scale model, rather than a toy..I am happy. So I have the Monogram 737, and the Aurora 727. Is the Monogram 737 the Aurora mold? There was an Aurora 737 at the table as well but it had all the window cutouts vs. the Monogram using decals. I did not want to fill all those holes with clearfix- As far a liveries go- I'm not sure what decals are readily availibl
  15. I scored a couple of 1/72 builder kits this weekend at our local contest. First was the Aurora 727 in United livery. Once I tossed out the moldy box, instructions and decals (they were that bad), scrubbed and disinfected the plastic really good, I have everything but one of the MLG Struts. I figure for $7 I could add a nice piece to my 72 collection. I also picked up a Monogram 1/72 United 737 ($7). Decals may be salvageable, but I would like to do something different. I think I would like to do the classic Western airlines livery on the 727. I found that Flight Path did a set of decals
  16. I find that a good wipe with IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) and a good primer (I love Mr. Surfacer cut with laquer thinner) make all the difference in the world. I wipe with IPA, allow it to flash off for at least 30min before painting. I mix the MR. surfacer 1200 with the laquer thinner thicker than most paints and spray at a higher pressure. Allow the primer to dry, wet sand smooth as necessary with fine grit. Wipe again with IPA and allow to flash off 30 min. Paint top coats- I have painted alclad over this priming method then masked stripes for an F-84 Thunderbirds scheme ON TOP OF THE ALCL
  17. They have to be better than the kit engines....
  18. I have the latest release of the Beluga so I will have to look closer at the decals! Never noticed it! That sheet was what I was hoping to find WWV! Thanks for the link!
  19. Another project I have going on in 1/144 is the Revell Shuttle/747 SCA. To me the fan blades just look off and the shape of the cowls looks goofy as well. I see that there are a couple of companies like Bra.Z and Contrails that make replacements but I dont see that any of the distributers have any of them. Specifically looking for the PW JT9D's for the 747-100 SCA #905 (Am I even looking for the correct ones?) Is there a magical kingdom of airliner parts that I am missing out on out there? Better kits? Doner kits? Also looking for a set for Revell 144 KC-10 (CF6's?) and a set of RB.211's
