    Head count

Definetly. The leaves booked, the shopping list started and the house keeping money stolen B) . I`ll be slinking out of the house saturday morning. The only question that remains is....................whose driving Mike or me?
  2. Hoorah. We finally have some paint on. I decided to experiment a bit and used brown instead of black for the preshading. Seeing as the underside is white I thought black would be to harsh. I also wanted the brown to simulate the brown stains which accumulate over time. And then for the main coat. The nose still needs some work, but it seems to have turned out OK. But you judge for yourself. The photos don't really show the shading to its full effect. This is one big model I can't fit it completely into my spraybooth. I had to perform a delicate balancing act on my knee. Nigel.
  3. I found them to be really good. They carve a square groove into the plastic and leave a finish which closley matches the engravings found on the modern kits. The square scribes can only be used when doing straight lines however. To deal with curves and templates you also receive a pin like scriber. The square scribes also come in three varying widths. This enables you to differentiate between panel joints and moving surfaces. You still have to use them in conjunction with rulers, templates and dyno tape. They don't seem to wobble as much as a needle and I found them to be of a great help on
  4. Well thats, that done. Filled the lower square ficticious panel. Re-scribed the RAT panel to the correct profile and moved its exhaust to the correct position. No wonder people put the RAT's in the wrong position. i have highlighted the re-scribing with pencil. Got the RAT's more like the real things as well. On the right we have before and on the left after. OOB is now just a distance memory. Nigel.
  5. Cheers John. You know what threw me? The RAT exhausts are moulded in the wrong place on the kit, along with a ficticious sqaure panel below each RAT. Not a major problem to fix, just tedious. I can console myself in the fact that the RATs were coming off anyway, for further modification. Nigel
  6. I think you may have picked up the wrong type of Dyno tape as there are several types now on the market with the advent of the new electronic Dyno machines. What you need is the tape on the right. Its the tape used by the old original embossing type machines. The tape turns white and creases when bent at severe angles. It is about twice as thick as the new stuff which is on the left. The new stuff is just like sellotape and of limited use when scribing. When you go back to the store just tell them its for the old style embossing Dyno machine and you won't go far wrong. The colour matters n
  7. Few more pics of my progress. Decided to scratch the antenna on the top as the kit was was very clunky and didn't feature the prominent sweep of the mounting rods. Beefed up the RATs with a bit of plastic card and hollowed them out. Not happy with them, as they are though. The rear of the rats slope should terminate closer to the fuselage. So tomorrow they will be pulled off and fixed. The tail is finally in place, fully rescribed and faired. Definetly the biggest gaps encountered so far. Added the wing fences inboard of the intakes. Scratched out of very thin aluminum a true test o
  8. Cheers guys, wing fences, glazing and a bit of drilling it is then. Nigel. (Who now owns shares in Milliput and a sandpaper company. Thanks to a Matchbox Victor :P .)
  9. Thats looking really good. Hard to believe its the old Airfix kit. Did you ever get to finish the Victor? That damn thing is the reason I have one on my workbench Nigel.
  10. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the construction of this kit and have a few questions. Firstly looking at some pics kindly provided by Mike I can see that Teasin Tina has a hole on the rear cone of the fuselage. Was this hole featured on the earlier type airframes of 1982? Were the wing fences on the soulder of the wings just inboard of the intakes on all types or fitted after 1982? I`m planning on making a Black Buck Victor. Were the bomb aimers windows glazed or faired over? Cheers for any help you can provide. Nigel.
  11. Halfords is a chain of stores specializing in automotive goods. Its just their cheap and cheerful own brand primer, that just happens to be acrylic. I'm sure that if you go into your local car spares place that they will carry a similiar line. Nigel.
  12. Well, just to prove I'm still slogging along heres a few updates pics. The canopy is on at last only took two days . The morale of that story is that milliput is our friend. But it came out ok in the end. Another milestone was reached. The wings are all fitted and its really starting to take shape. Thats all for now. Comments welcome as always. Nigel.

    Vac formers

Hi guys need some advice. i have located a 2 old vac form machines. One is a mattell vac former from the 60's and the other by Toymax made in the 90's. Has anybody ever used either of these and if so what did you think. Or are there more modern alternatives available. I'm only looking at doing canopies and the like. Nigel
  14. If you build it they will come........
  15. I had the same problem about 12 months ago and no matter how many times I stripped and cleaned my airbrush (Badger 360) the problem persisted. It turned out to be the tip which had belled at the end. On a quick check of the tip I could find no obvious fault. No splits, dents etc. Even when I compared it to a new tip the differance was hardly noticable. It wasn't until i seated the needle into the tip that the problem became apparent. The needle protruded much further out of the worn tip. If that doesn't s solve the problem you might want to think about replacing the teflon needle bearing. O
  16. Jeez, Mike. I know the kit was a bit lacking but I had no idea. I will never speak badly of the Matchbox Victor again. And for everybodys info. I have fondled those resin intakes and by god they are good. In fact I would rate them just ahead of the flightpath intakes for the Victor and as we all know their good. I'll even let Mike personally deliver mine when the time comes. Get your wallets to the ready. Nigel.
  17. That is one sweet build. Go on then talk us through the switches, don't keep it to yourself and don't forget to mention the ring at the bottom. You really have a talent for this don't you. Nigel.
  18. Well the bang seats are done. Turned out well, even if I do so say so myself. The pencil is there for a sense of scale. Been a long time since I worked in 1/72 scale. Good job my vision is 20/20 and I have one of those geeky headband magnifiers. You know the type. You forget you have it on while your talking to the neighbours. ;) Well what do you think. Quiddy cheers for the offer any spare parts gratefully excepted. Both outer wings were destroyed. Nigel.
  19. I then went on to improve the wing tip probe with a bit of brass wire. Replacing the bulky kit item. I also removed the kit wing fences replacing them with thin plastic stock cut to the correct size. Thank Skii for that chore as well :( . It was worth it though. Well I think so, but you can judge for yourself. By the way the fences look straight in person as Mike will tell you. The camera just exaggerates the smallest error. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. I then moved to the front of the fuselage and the dreadful kit pitot. Yes Skii's fault again :D . But here I enlisted the help
  20. Well one of the outer wing panels is now complete. Along with mods to the carrots and new, finer, wing fences. Heres quite a large update showing the progress thus far. It feels like 2 steps forward and 1 back on this build. First the update to the carrots. As Skii pointed out the kit carrots depict them raking away sharply towards the ground, which is incorrect. What matchbox have done is allow the bottom of the carrots to follow the sweep of the top of the wing. When infact they should follow the bottom. To correct this I first marked the portion that need to be removed and took away the m
  21. Well i'm back after a week with the Labour party conferance. Which was differant . Mike you'll have to come over to my place soon. Really enjoyed the evening. was good to talk to somebody about something everybody else considers to be childish. However I may have had a bit of a break through at work. Some of the lads saw some pics of my F-16 and one has asked me to build a kit for him. Wonders will never cease. Big rufty tufty policeman wants a model building. :D Anyways back to the kit. Having not touched it for a while I sat down to my bench to find that the wing tips had welded themsel
  22. It can be airbrushed as Tim and David have said. But I find the finish to be very, very delicate. So I tend to give it a coat of Future to seal and protect it. Nigel.
  23. Sorry Mike, yes its the one at the top of Northgate St. Very helpful bunch. As for the home office licence, thats a complete crock of the brown stuff. You can stab somebody to death with a knife but I bet that they where quite willing to sell you scalpel. Just because you can do something illegal with an item doesn't mean you will. Some of these jobs worths really tick me off. Then just when you think they have reached their peak they go one further and start making laws up. :D Mike if you have any probs drop me a line and I'll get some for you. As for price I think I paid no more than £3
