mgrandison
I'd like to join in the group build. Does anyone know exactly which model of MIG-21 this is? Would it be correct for a North Vietnamese version? Thanks, Mike
Julien (UK)
I have seen NV MiG's with the forward hinging canopies. Not 100% sure on the model though. Any MiG-21 experts here? Julien
Trojan Thunder
I believe it is a 'Bis' as it also comes with Finnish Air Force decals.... how do I know? The Hawk is also Matchbox
mgrandison
Thanks Ray, This kit has a one piece canopy. Markings are for Soviet or Czech Air Force. I'm going to get to building and just call it a "Mig-21". There is no cockpit detail. I'll start there and see what I can scratch build. There are also no weapons (missiles, pylons, etc) included with this kit. - Mike
Trojan Thunder
I wonder if there were 2 versions issued... Edit: There were two versions PK-19, the one you're building and PK-41 the one I built http://www.matchboxkits.org/advanced_searc...amp;x=3&y=8 Oh well, I look forward to your build Edited August 26, 2009 by Trojan Thunder

Yes, I do have the PK-19 version. Cheers, Mike
Julien (UK)
This version is not a bis as it has the forward hinging canopy. I think it is a bit of a mismash of marks, I think would be ok to build as a NVMPAF one. Just check your pics and move aa few bits about. Julien

That's why it was so hard to figure out. Let's just call it a, "What If Mig-21?"  like they scrounged all the parts together to get a bird in the air. It'll be fun and good practice. - Mike
madmike
Just remember the GB is about building Matchbox kits, so it is not uber critical to correct any innaccuracies if you do not want to.

Graemeb
Should look cool a Mig 21-B (a....d) First one on ARC for sure. Enjoy will follow closely. Edited August 27, 2009 by Graemeb
172flogger
Because kit have wide tail fin with parachute, best could be MIG-21PFM or FL camouflages. Try one of these PFMs and paint canopy frame: http://www.spectre.cz/prints/mig-21/pfm-4410.png http://www.bilekhobby.cz/kat/p934.htm

Finnish Bis was in latest Matchbox/Revell boxing number 40041 with new boxart and black design. I believe sprues have green color, unlike older PK-41.
mgrandison
Thanks to everyone for all the info. I'm making progress on my Mig-21 and I'm learning a lot about scratch building (mostly not being afraid to try it). It's good practice. I hope to have some pics to post soon. - Mike
