The trick with the decals (1/48 and 1/72) is as follows.

1) dip the decal in hot (not boiling) water

2) put it down over a smear of micro-set

3) pat down wit a towel

4) apply a little more micro-set,

5) after a few minutes, cut the decal along any panel lines it crosses

6) one last coat of microset along the cut portion. Microsol if its being particularly nasty.

The method works for me without fail.

Watch, now that I've said this, I'll start screwing up all my Airfix decals

ah ha - there's the bit i missed. the rest is pretty much just what i do.

however, on my Devastator there are multiple raised ribs on the wings, so it would look like spaghetti if i made that many cuts. Also, the fuselage has rivets, not panel lines.

but i'll certainly try that trick on kits with recessed panel lines.

Hmm...are those from the short period of time when Airfix printed their decals on the brown backing paper? If so then don't bother

no, light blue backing paper on the Devastator. But they just look (and are) really thick.

yours look brilliant, look like painted on.

strangely, most of the other Airfix kits i've done have had nice thin decals which bed down fine.
