GretarBill
Hi all you great guys. I need some info regarding weathering. I going to, for the first time, paint a model and then gloss it, decal it, gloss again, and at last paint the clear matt coat. I was just wondering where in the prosess I would do the weathering. Over the last gloss coat before the matt coat or.......... I hope....... I know someone can help me. Best regards Grétar

Old72s
Depends on what you are using. I find that pastels don't adhere well to a gloss surface.
Massimo Moruzzi
I usually apply dry pastels on matt surface, and pastels solution (see tools 'n' tips) on gloss. Try and see how these techniques give different results. HTH Massimo
urloony
That is true about pastels. I was thinking you are probably just doing a basic wash in which case your best off applying after your second clear coat. The reason for that is you can easily clean it off if it gets screwed up. I use a wash that is a mix of water based ink and liquitex flow aid. Goes great into the panel lines. If your looking to get a little more advanced you may want to try the pastel chalks after your final flat coat. Just don't over do it they're a bugger to get off if you need to. jotter
If you use sludge washes (acrylic paint-dishwashing detergent and some water-washed into panel lines -then wiped off with a rag or cotton ball) You really want to do it over a glossy surface which promotes the wash running into panel lines. just thought I'd add that little bit of info
Andy Gudbergsson
Gretar, I fill the panel lines with a wash, water colors work good for me, and wipe the excess off with a damp Q-tip, then I apply the matt coat. After the matt coat I do some weathering with pastels after I'm satisfied with the results I apply another coat of matt to seal the pastels weathering.
