Probably because the potential market is too small to make it worthwhile for them. DId you try looking in the O-scale model railroad section? Might be your best chance.

how would we know, how does tamiya's hummers sale i own two, we just need revell or testors to give it a go

Revell (or was it the original Monogram?) did some 1/48 kits back in the old days; there was a Ford pickup, among other things.

Tamiya has some nice kits in its Military Miniatures series, mostly WWII era vehicles.

AMT and Revell did some nice 30's, 40's, 50's era stuff, which you can still find now and then.

Depending on whos O scale one is going by, it could be from 1/43rd to 1/48.

1/48 is a growing scale in armor, so someday maybe you will find some civilian vehicles. 10 years ago it was hard to find any armor in the scale other than some very old Bandai kits. Tamiya and others decided to take a chance and revived the scale around 2003. It really seems to have taken off with quite a good selection of kits now. There also seems to be a recent push for more softskins and civil vehicles for armor builders with seveal WW2 era European staff cars becoming available in 1/35 and 1/48.
