KENT B
I'm getting ready to paint my 1/48 Hasegawa F-15C, my question....were there AC painted Mod Eagle Camo that weren't MSIP II updated? if so does someone have a link and is there a decal set matching. If I do the "old" camo is there a decal set from the Desert Storm or Enduring Freedom. Bottom line my Hasegawa F-15C is not a MSIP II AC Thanks for looking
dmk0210
Do a search for MSIP on this board. That should help you turn up some info. I may be wrong (hopefully someone else will chime in either way), but I think there were F-15A birds in the ANG without MSIP II upgrades that had the Mod eagle scheme. Something to look into. From a model perspective there would be little difference between the A and C. My research has turned up that the Eagles that took part in Desert Storm had MSIP II updates. I'm working on one now. Murph
The Mod Eagle scheme started in PACAF while they were still transitioning to MSIP jets, so it was possible to see Elmo or Kadena jets that were pre-MSIP. For the original Ghost Gray scheme Bitburg deployed some jets for Desert Storm that hadn't gone through the MSIP upgrade yet; all of the Eglin and Langley jets in Desert Storm were MSIP modded though. By OEF the entire fleet was MSIP. BTW, it's just MSIP. MSIP I was a "paper only" program, all jets were eventually brought up to the MSIP II standard, as a result the "II" was dropped on all official documentation, which simply called it MSIP. As a result, MSIP II is a term that only modelers use. Regards, Murph Edited August 8, 2015 by Murph
ikar
I was in a couple F-15 squadrons back in the 80s, the 44th T.F.S. and 5th F.I.S.. Since I left I haven't been keeping track of various changes. What is MSIP?

Well there you go. If that's the case, then Two Bob's has a decal sheet that might allow you to build a Desert Storm aircraft. I don't see it stated on the sheet, but with some research on tail numbers, you could put something together. http://www.dstorm.eu/pages/en/usa/f-15.html http://www.dstorm.eu/pages/en/other/decals.html http://www.twobobs.net/contents/en-us/p646.html

What is MSIP? It was an update to the F-15's CC and armament system, which added the PACS panel to the cockpit and allowed the carriage of the AIM-120. There were other changes that were coincident with that (external antennas, chaff/flare, new stick grip) which modelers often roll into MSIP when talking about it, but which were actually separate. Murph
F-15 Multi-Stage Improvement Program (MSIP) http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/f15_25.html Quite a few errors in that article. For instance, the APG-70 was not part of MSIP, and only a small number of MSIP jets were fitted with the APG-70. The vast majority retained the APG-63, and the few that had the APG-70s fitted later had them removed and replaced with the APG-63. The APG-70s were fitted because the number of F-15Es bought was too small for an economically practical production run of the APG-70, so they bought extra APG-70s and put the extras in the C model fleet. dmk0210
Good to know Murph! I should have caught that because I was just researching the APG-63v3 AESA and Golden Eagle upgrades. http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/f-15s-looking-for-the-aesa-edge-04044/ Edited August 8, 2015 by dmk0210
