jonwinn
This will be a fast build. It's small but very nicely detailed. I am using the kit decals for The Crystal Ship, always like The Doors music. jon
jonwinn
I have 16 grams of weight in the forward fuselage and the fuselage closed up. jon
SakisG
That's a good start! Very nice model, I have built it in the past and enjoyed it very much. It's a rebox from Special Hobby. Edited July 3, 2021 by SakisG
Hajo L.
You're really fast! But I like what you did so far! Is your rotor-mast "fixed"? HAJO
jonwinn
Thanks. I don't think it's fixed. It kept falling out so I used a very tiny drop of Testors tube glue to keep it in as I closed up the fuselage halves. jon
Hajo L.
Yeah, I have the same problem with the rotor mounting. It's the only downside of the kit. HAJO
jonwinn
I had a few locating problems. The interior had very small raised area to locate the interior to the fuselage sides yet the kit has huge locator pins to help with fuselage sides assembly. I'd rather have had a bigger lip to locate the interior and a bigger lip to locate the main rotor hub. Outside of that the kit has an excellent "Tamiya" quality fit, so far and beautiful detailing. jon

See here where I have photos of the problem and the solution.
jonwinn
Thanks, I just ordered the Brengun resin intakes, much better looking and a deal at $3.75 USD. jon
jonwinn
I have the tail and stabs added. I have a step in one side as the tail seems wider than the fuselage boom. There is a slight step in the left side joint, outside of that it is a good fit. I need to do a small bit of sanding and am awaiting my resin intakes to resume building. jon

habu2
Ahhh thanks. I noticed your build started on July 3rd, was that intentional?
jonwinn
No, I'm not that much of a Morrison fan, and 1971 was not a good year for me anyways. Much more of a Pink Floyd fan myself! jon
habu2
Led Zep / Hendrix here. But I digress….
jonwinn
The replacement air intakes came in today. jon
jonwinn
The intake fit excellent. Well worth a couple dollars. jon
jonwinn
Finally back to the Cobra. I have a few more parts on the front and puttied up the resin intakes. Once the glass, skids and pylons are on I can mask and paint the olive drab. jon
jonwinn
I found this color for the olive drab, it's Humbrol light olive matt an acrylic rattle can spray paint. I used Humbrol's desert tan acrylic spray on a tank a few years back and was impressed with the results. It has that brown hue to it like a lot of the Vietnam Cobras had. jon Edited September 2, 2021 by jonwinn

jonwinn
Thanks, more parts added, wings, pylons and small gussets near exhaust. jon
jonwinn
The pylons and glass have been added. I also did a bit more filling and sanding. jon
jonwinn
I have the gun turret instaled and can now mask and paint, as soon as the OD paint I ordered comes in. I also decided to go with Leprechaun and not The Crystal Ship. jon
jonwinn
I have started the masking for black area around cockpit glass. jon
