Dave Roof Posted April 21 Share Posted April 21 Way back in 2000, I released my first decal sheet under the Orion Scale Models banner. The first subject was an F/A-18D from VMFA(AW)-225, and the Marine that designed and painted the jet was a friend and fellow Ordnanceman. I had an opportunity to photograph the jet while it was being painted after he let me know it was being done. The CO at the time, LtCol Harmon "Stock" Stockwell, was excited to see "his" jet covered on a decal sheet. Over the years, he and I kept in touch via email and the occasional phone call, and we're still friends to this day. One this is completed, it will be packed and shipped to him as a gift. The kit I pulled happened to be the 225 boxing with markings very similar to what I covered. However, Hasegawa captured the jet about a year-ish later that had some minor changes made to the markings. I'll be using a lot of resin items from my FLSC line, as well as some other aftermarket stuff. The only thing changed are the intakes. I decided to go with the Sierra Hotel intakes as the fit was a little better. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

As luck would have it, this build will get changed to another squadrons markings, or set aside while I break out another kit. Got a request from MAG-31 yesterday to build a Hornet for their CO's change of command on 28 June! Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Kurt H. Posted April 27 Share Posted April 27 Those intakes look nice. Have you used them before? Do they require a lot of trimming of the kit to fit? I tried a similar project with a ton of your stuff but having never built a hasegawa hornet I messed up the flaps and ruined the kit. I am ready to try again.. and I will be watching. ALF18 Posted April 30 Share Posted April 30 Watching this closely, Dave. I agree with Kurt that the intakes are nice - they are always problematic on F/A-18 kits in all scales. Looks like all that AM stuff will boost the cost of the build way beyond the price of the kit! 🙂 Are you using PE for the cockpit panels/MIPs?
