lockheed2004
Here's my entry for the Phantom GB. Kit was the 1/48 Hasegawa F-4E '30 Years of Phantoms' kit. Went together with no problem. Twobobs decals. Other than that, it's all OOB. The display stand is acrylic rod and a precut base I stained. I'd like to thank Joe Hedegus for sending me the 4 Mk.20s, which were essential to the Chico loadout. Enjoy the pics! Brian
lockheed2004
Front offices, helmet designs were added for color, doubtful that these are authentic I added a soft panel wash using Steve's method in the Tools 'n Tips section. It sort of shows up in the photos. Edited August 16, 2005 by lockheed2004

lockheed2004
Tail shot, rods are 1/2". Drilled out the burner cans, inserted copper tubing, ran the rod through there.

lockheed2004
Weapons loadout for Chico missions was 2 SUU-20 gunpods, 4 Mk 20s, centerline fuel tank, and the AN/ALQ-87 pod on the front right station.
lockheed2004
One more of the weapons, and a wee bit of the right side camo
lockheed2004
Last one, just another view of the cockpit from a different angle. Comments and critiques are welcome. This was a fun build and I enjoyed this GB, it gave me an excuse to get several books on Vietnam Phantoms. Thanks for looking!
phantom
Looks great, I did that one for my 3rd or 4th group build. I have a question for you. The gun pods? The two tone cam?? You sure about that??? I only had one ref photo and they looked Olive drab to me. Wouldnt surprise me that your right, like I said I only had one ref photo of those and it was kind of from above. The tail cap should be red. This was a mistake Bob made with the decals for the 48 sheet which he fixed on the 72 and 32 sheets. Like I said it looks great and I really like the in flight display. I should try that one day.
BadCop
Fantastic Job - If my SEA camouflage on my F-4E turns out half as good I'll be happy. Just one question though - shoud the Mk20s be hanging off a TER, or is that arrangement with the Sidewinder Rail also used for Bombs? Regards, Trent
CraigSargent
Very nice build. The panel wash is also nice and subtle, but effective. However, as pointed out by BadCop, the bombs would not (can not) be hung on the LAU rails for the Sidewinders. They should be on TERs (Triple Ejector Racks).
phantom
I used a TER below that point. I didnt mount the winder rails. Didnt have any TERs so I had to steal them off a F-16 which has seen better days. Also Chico was a hard wing. I still think the inflight is looking good. A mighty nice build. Pete Wenman
Brian that's a great looking bird. :) The inflight display really suits the large weapon load. Pete wishing he could get hold of clear acrylic rod in the UK
Gene K
Also Chico was a hard wing. Looks really great. As for the wing, since you didn't put slats on the wintips of your model, just "pop off" the slat actuators on the underside of the wings and it's correct. You might also want to check the plate on top of the wing. I believe it is on Navy birds, but is absent on USAF Phantoms. See this ARC discussion.. Gene K
BadCop
You might also want to check the plate on top of the wing. I believe it is on Navy birds, but is absent on USAF Phantoms. The Pro Modeler Instructions for their boxing of the Hasegawa kit have you get rid of these entirely, as well as the thick blade style antennae under the intakes and just outboard of the speed brakes, and this seems to agree with what reference pics I've got. What I'm checking out for my build are the three little blades on each side of the nose - not sure if they are on RAAF F-4Es. That's the problem with planes as long lived as the Phantom - during different times all sorts of antennas, lumps and bumps appeared and disappeared over the airframe. So checking with references is a must! Again, these really pathetic nitpicking criticisms aside - you've done a great Job, and the weathering is superb! Regards, Trent.
