Supertom
Hey all, Can anyone tell me what type of ejection seats are used on modern S-3B Vikings? A picture on Hyperscale by "Fuji" Ramos looks like an ESCAPAC with a big bar on top, but I'm not too sure.
Harv
Don't recall the exact designation, but it is an ESCAPAC with a large canopy breaker on top...Collin or others may know more, however-

Collin
Hey all,Can anyone tell me what type of ejection seats are used on modern S-3B Vikings? A picture on Hyperscale by "Fuji" Ramos looks like an ESCAPAC with a big bar on top, but I'm not too sure. My butt just hurts looking at that picture. Yep...ESCAPAC seat with a canopy breaker that was specific to the S-3... A-4 and others that used the seat didn't have the breaker... but the seat the headknockers (the safety switch in the headrest were pretty much the same). That pilot is "King" Authurs. He was just finishing up as a RAG insturctor in VS-41 as I was finishing up the RAG... he headed to Japan as CAG paddles (same time I did to VS-21). As CAG paddles, he trained up on the F-14A and flew the heck out of it. He had better landing grades than all but 2 pilots in VF-154 (and this was before VF-154 got the new flight control upgrade). Flew with him a few times in VS-21, really fun to watch him on the ball. Both CAG paddels (him and 'Ward' Slook) were both S-3 guys). They would break at the stern, be constantly moving the stick and thottles on final... but the ball never moved from center. Those two guys had the gift of flying the ball. 'Ward' eventually went off to fly Hornets as well during his paddles tour. Cheers
Spongebob
He's thinking "where is the E-2 so I can cut them out of the pattern...." Spongebob
Fuji
My butt just hurts looking at that picture. That pilot is "King" Authurs. My butt was numb after that flight - four hour recovery tanker. King was a great guy to fly with, i got some stick time and he taught me how to set up the ARS to tranfer fuel. All in all, one of the best flights I have ever been on and my first cat and trap to boot. Anyone know where King is these days?
