Lib14
Hey gang, I'm gonna join this GB with the CMR resin kit, which is often being condesired as the most accurate Spitfire kit in 1/72 scale. Since I already have couple of them under my belts, I think it is really a great kit, which besides its accuracy builds pretty easily. For the start, let me introduce the box content: The resin parts are beautifully cast, there are many alternative parts like wing, wheels, exhausts, bombs, gun covers etc. Included is also pre-colored etched fret from Eduard, pre-cut canopy masks, two vacformed canopies and nice decal sheet ... and this is my choice I intent to build, a back-up machine of W/C Johny Johnson flown in June 1944. At one occasion it served for quick delivery of the beer to the exhausted soldiers on the other side of the Channel. Edited March 3, 2009 by Lib14
Lib14
Little progress I made over the last few days... Painting the interior, adding the coloured photo-etched and closing the fuselage halves. Some filler will be needed here and there... Now I'm working on the wing, the first task being careful removing the wing from the casting block using razor saw.
olda homola
wow...another CMR Spit made by Czech CMR-lover! Let´s roll!
David Koktavý
I see, you will need a lot of filler . I like the cockpit painting. I also see a beam behind the armour plate. Good detail. I was not aware of it so far...
olda homola
Well I didn´t notice there was a beam beghind the head rest armor plate...are you sure it should be there Libor?
Lib14
Yes, I think so. Look at the above topic Spitfire Pictures, there are couple of nice photos showing this feature. Btw the beam on my kit is broken and I have to extend it a little. Cheers Libor Edited February 13, 2009 by Lib14
johnsan
Watching your build closely as I have a couple of these resin kits in the stash. Please continue to show lots of photos.
Lib14
OK Johnsan, that's my intention My next progress over the weekend - filling the gaps with two part Gunze putty. I cut the elevators off the horizontal stabilizers and sanded them to aerofoil shape; they will be added at a later stage.

Lib14
I'm finished with the main airframe assembly, all is sanded smooth and polished. The gun barrels are made from Griffon brass tubing. The next order of the day will be the canopy, to be continued soon... Cheers Libor
old_Tonto
Wow the canon barrels look great. Keep up the good work.
olda homola
the cannon and gun barells look really gooooooood!
Lib14
Thanks guys, that Griffon brass tubing is really worth investing! I know the vacformed canopies may often put many people off building the resin or short run kits, but with few things in mind it is quite easy task and at the end the vacformed canopy looks more realistic than the injection molded one. Below you can see my four usual steps I do: 1. outlining the canopy framing with thin black marker in order to see up to where I can cut 2. in case you want to have open canopy it is easier to cut the parts while the canopy is still being in one block, here I'm using JLC razor saw 3. for cutting and cleaning the edges I always use fresh scalpel blade 4. all three parts ready... ... front and rear parts are going to be glued to the kit now, the sliding part will be added at the end of the build. David Koktavý
Hi Lib14, The gun barells really look good. Thanks for sharing how you do the canopy. I think the sharp blade is half of success...

johnsan
I'm enjoying your build, but am most impressed with the clarity of your photos. They're very clear in telling your build story.
VG 33
Hi This is a very nice and quick built kit you are making. CMR kits are expensive but worth it. Patrick
Deon
Nice work Libor, neat and tidy job, I look forward to the finished article.
Lib14
OK gents, thanks, the painting job starts - first of all, I sprayed the kit with Mr.Surfacer 1000 and corrected any blemishes I found. Then I gently riveted the surface using Rosie The Riveter wheel. Now, I'm working on the D-Day stripes and other markings that should be done before the main colors are going to be applied, i.e. Sky band and Yellow leading edges. All colors are Gunze Sangyo Hobby Aqueous, the wooden structure on beer kegs is imitated using oil paint. And the finished kit: Edited March 3, 2009 by Lib14
