Bob Beary
I'm about to attach the canopies on an F-4 Phantom 1/48 scale. They will be in the open position and the fit has some play in it. What are your favored cements/adhesives in this situation? CA won't allow me enough time to align things and I'm afraid epoxy might create a mess. I'm thinking something like Aileen's Super Tacky. I'd like your input. Thanks, Bob
Janissary
I created a simple rig for that using styrene rods: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=279141&view=findpost&p=2737252 Once I got the position right, I removed the canopies, placed little bits of gel type CA on the undersides of the hinges, repositioned (need to work somewhat quickly, but you still get some time), and before it solidified completely, I hit the hinge connections with a little bit of Tamiya green cap cement to iron out all the CA. With the rig, the only thing you need to adjust is the yaw angle.
Bob Beary
Thanks for that! I knew someone posted this a long time ago, but I never would have found it. Bob
Joel_W
For open canopies with a hinge I use Loctite Gel CA glue. I find that it gives me enough time for alignment issues. Joel
