  1. Very nice looking F-86D Gary. I've been using the Alclad paint now for awhile. Expensive stuff but the results are impressive. I have run into the same problem you had with your application but I decided not to strip the model down. Instead I left the Alclad on and steel wooled the imperfections out with the Alclad as a base. The paint seemed to expensive to waste but the technique worked out even better. The Alclad dries hard so its easy to see the steel wool work out the imperfections. Also wanted to pass on something to you about your decal problem. I tried using the Future for decals to ad

    Moskit Exhausts

Does anyone out there know the story why Moskit quit production of their aircraft exhausts?? Im especially interested in finding some of their 1/32 scale P-51 Exhausts and if anyone else might be producing a similar item.
  3. Here is a very simple suggestion.......if you're going to use an automotive paint use an automotive grade primer also......I would suggest an acrylic lacquer primer. The lacquer primer dries fast and provides a good barrier coat for your color coat. Sand before applying any paint for good adhesion.
  4. I'm just going to put a suggestion out there for you. I've always had really good luck applying an automotive grade acrylic lacquer primer after I have constructed the model. This kind of primer-surface will not only fill in the sanding scratches from a coarser grit sand paper it will also bring out the areas where you need to sand with a finer grit paper. I prefer to use a wet or dry paper of 800 grit or finer for final sanding, recoat the sanded areas with another coat of primer then final prep the surface with 0000 steel wool. The other advantage of the automotive grade primer is that it ha
  5. Can anyone out there tell me where I can purchase some good quality decal paper?? Steve Negley
  6. You can see a Koster conversion that I built up on the ARC website, don't know if it is archived yet though. I really liked the conversion kit and the completed model comes out nice. Have any questions please ask as I still have the build pretty fresh in my mind. Steve Negley
  7. Think you added to much Slo-Dri to your paint. I used the stuff but did not have your result and I decided I didn't see much of an advantage of the Slo-Dri over the technique I've always used to slow down the dry process of my acrylics. The technique I've always used is 2 drops of Joy liquid dishsoap per bottle and thin with 75% water and 25% rubbing alcohol. The Joy keeps the paint from flashing off to fast and the thinning ratio helps keeps the paint wet after being applied to the surface. Hope this might help!
  8. Was wondering if there I an ARC'er out there that might have Superscale sheet 48-1219 they might want to sell? Looking to do a NMF F-105D with an a/c from this sheet. Thanks Steve Negley
  9. I am interested in modeling 1/48 scale jets, 1/32 scale WWII, and rockets of any scale. I have been building since I was 10 yrs old and won my first sanctioned IPMS contest at age 14 with a 1/72 scale F-4C Phantom. my other interests include camping, flyfishing, and varmint hunting. I am also an accomplished guitarist and restore and repair electric guitars.

  10. Was wondering if there is an ARC'er out there that might have the Eagle Strike sheet F-106 Part 1. This sheet profiles a 318th FIS F-106 with the Starburst unit marking on the tail. If you have this sheet and are willing to sell please reply to this post. Thanks to all of you at the ARC forums. Steve Negley
  11. I use only Solve-A-Set for a decal setting solution as I find the Micro-Sol a bit weak for softening the decal. Also alot of the water slide decals made today lose some of the adhesion quality in the soaking process which can lead to silvering. To fix this problem I add some Elmers white glue to the setting solution to add some adhesion back to the decal after its applied to the model. You don't need much but I've found it to help alleviate the silvering before the final finish is applied. I'm not a big fan of applying Future as a gloss coat before applying decals as I find it whitens with th
