  1. I came across this thread as I am about to built the Revell 737-800 and there's some good tips here, thank you. But wow, Wally, both those kits are fantastic, especially the DC-3, well done. Gary
  2. Well done, it's a really good build. Sorry to nitpick, but the SA flag is on the wrong way round. The red should be on top.
  3. It's really great to get so many responses, thank you everyone.
  4. Just closing this thread off, here's the complete item in the critique section. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=185666 Now on to my 1/48 HobbyBoss Hornet in 30th anniversary colours.
  5. Thanks everyone for your comments. They're all greatly appreciated. I sprayed gloss varnish to simulate the water. In some places, especially under the aircraft I sprayed it on really thick. The photographs show it up really nicely, in fact even I thought 'wow! how good is that!' when I saw the pics I'd taken :)
  6. ... weather your aircraft. What a joy that would be (well at least for modellers like me who aren't very good at it). Anyway, having finished my Revell 1/72 F-18C I decided to have a bit of fun with the result. Please feel free to comment and critique.
  7. To quote our teenage babysitter, eeeeeuuuuuuuw gross! :(
  8. Almost finished! Got to add the canopy and the aerials and I'll be able to move this to the critique thread. Here's items I've recently finished. Dropped the flaps. Wings folded. Covered the exhausta and intakes. Must admit I'm not too happy with this, but it's my first attempt, I can only improve ... I hope! Radar on display As always comments/criticisms welcome ... he says optimistically based on the history of this thread! :D
  9. Thanks for the replies. That pic was useful, thanks Curt. So question answered, yes the kit is accurate by including that zig zag.
  10. Hello, Me again with another question about the Super Hornet. I'm modelling my kit with flaps and ailerons etc dropped as they are when the aircraft is parked. The RoG kit has the moulded line for the leading edge flap running along the front of the wing as you'd expect. But about halfway between the fuselage edge and the wingfold mechanism they have added some depth to the leading edge flap. Does this indentation still exist on the aircraft? I have found one photo in International Air Power Review Vol 11 on the bottom of page 50 that shows this on an F-18F but that's the only pic I can
  11. Work is progressing. I've added the hinged shrouds and have painted the fuselage. I'm using Revell paints and the Revell colour instructions which means that I've been mixing paints to try get the correct shade of grey. Admittedly I do the 10% this and 90% that using the number of drops of paint off a cocktail stick into the mixing cup, so I'm sure my colours may be way off, but hey, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. This is my first kit that I've completely airbrushed. I think I've made a breakthrough with my airbrushing by finally finding the correct pressure at which to spray. IN the pa
  12. Hi Matt, The RoG kit is a new moulding. It's a nice kit. I've only just started building it, so only have the cockpit parts complete and have started chopping the wings up to have them folded and be able to drop flaps/ailerons, but no problems so far. A colourful set of decals comes with the kit as well. I'll try take some pics today and start an 'in progress' thread on the build.
  13. Hi, This is one of my current builds. It's been progressing (slowly) for a few months now and I'm really hoping I can put in a final burst and get it off my workbench. I've just started the Revell 1/72 F-18E because I was getting bored with this build (that's why I have so many incomplete projects ). Feel free to comment/criticise as it's a lot easier to rectify mistakes now than later. (And if I don't rectify them this build at least I'll know for my next one). The Daco Hornet book is my primary reference source for this, followed by numerous pics from the web and the TV series JetStream
  14. Matt, thanks for the pointer to Sprue Brothers. I'm about to build the Revell 1/72 kit which has the ECS pipes included. It's just that because of the difference I'd noticed in photos I wasn't sure if the Revell kit was accurate or not. Looking at the Sprue Brothers site though was an eye opener, I didn't realise there were so many etch and resin accessories for the F-18. And those NASA decals ... mmmmmm, must have Fuji, thank you very much for the great photos and the definitive answer. I really appreciate it.
