  1. I'm visiting Tulsa in the coming weeks (possibly Oklahoma City too). Can anyone refer me to a few good hobby shops in the area? Thanks!
  2. Best F-1AZ model I've seen! Excellent job!
  3. Good day, I found this picture of an AH-1W in Somalia, January 1993 and would like to build a model of it. It is not the best reference pic there is as can be seen. Anyone have more info on this or other AH-1Ws in Somalia around that time? All I am really after is the markings. From the photo I can see 133 on the nose, MARINES on the tail boom and the USAF roundel. I cant see the serial number etc. on the tail? Also looks like there is something on the engine cowling? Any help would be much appreciated. Kind Regards Nico
  4. Cool idea! Looking forward to see more :D
  5. Finally done! The decals gave me all my days! I made them myself and after 4 reprints I am happy with the results. I bought the springbok castles at a hobby shop in Johannesburg a few weeks ago. They are quite old but still looks good! Also did not add enough weight in the nose so she's a tail sitter :bandhead2:/> !

  7. Finished painting this little beauty! I am not happy with the silver paint. I used Tamiya X-11 and it looks a bit grainy. I am however very happy with the dayglo! (Humbrol 209 over Tamiya XF-2) Have already applied a few decals. Hopefully it will be done by the end of the week! :)
  8. For a SAAF version of the Vampire FB52 the intake bullet on the starboard side of the fuselage need to be extended. I used plastic card and filler to create the extension. More to come!
  9. I'm looking forward to this one! What paint are you going to use for the dayglo colour?
  10. It is not on display at the moment but I'm sure it is still there. I think they might just be busy with restoration work on it.
  11. Starting this one soon. It will be built as Angolan Air Force C340, the MiG-21 that defected to- and crash landed in South West Africa in 1988. This is a very old kit that I bought many years ago. It doesn't have a lot of detail but I think it will look OK when it's done. Cheers Nico
  12. Progress! Added detail to the cockpit... painted it... the seat... The entire model is already rescribed and I will start assembling soon! Cheers Nico
  13. Change of plans! I will still be building the SAAF Vampire but I'm dropping the Hawk and Buccaneer for an Angolan MiG-21bis (Revell 1/32). I want to practice masking skills!
  14. I have had some success removing paint with acetone and nail polish remover. If that doesn't work you can dip the entire model in household bleach. Maybe disassemble the cockpit or as bashace said, leave the nose sticking out.
  15. A few nice pictures here. Came across the link on another forum and thought I'd share with you...
  16. A big thanks to CorsairMan, CorsairMam and the sponsors! I will take the 1/72 Tamiya F4U-1 Birdcage Corsair. Great builds everybody! I really enjoyed reading through the finished builds section. Would have been nice to see all those Corsairs lined up next to each other!
  17. Finally got it done! Vought F-4U Corsair Fleet Air Arm, No.1841 Naval Air Squadron H.M.S Formidable, 1945 Flown by Robert Hampton "Hammy" Gray
  18. Almost there! I applied a bit of weathering using chalk pastels. Almost done with the prop. Cheers Nico
  19. I have been eyeing this kit in my stash for a while now so I thought I'd start off with it. I will be building it as SAAF #213 of the Advanced Flying School in Pietersburg, South Africa. Cheers Nico
  20. Thanks Luno13! Quick update... Paint on, decals on, future on! I will wait a few days for the future to dry before continuing... I am actually enjoying this build! Cheers Nico
  21. Aaronw, the A-109LUH is the only version of A-109 in the SAAF. There are a few A-109Ks in civilian use around the country and I'm sure there are others in the rest of Africa as well.
  22. R550's on the wing tips, MATRA 155 (68mm rocket pods) or Mk.82's on the wings and a centre drop tank? Although, I have a picture of Johan Rankin somewhere taken after his victory showing R550's on the wingtips but no wing stores. He would have taken-off with a centre drop tank I'm sure. PM me and I'll send you the picture.
  23. I'll be building the following: 1/72 South African Air Force Vampire (Revell) 1/72 South African Air Force Buccaneer (Airfix) 1/72 South African Air Force Hawk Mk.120 (Italeri)
  24. Great presentation for a beautiful model!
