  1. Tank, You are correct Sir. I forgot it was 1997 for Desert Punch. Thought it was earlier. But it was a hell of a lift. One time event I don't think we ever did a Wing lift again. LtGen Fred McCorkle was CG 3rd MAW when we did the lift. Basically during Desert Storm, we had a similar lift that did jot go as well as it should have. So he wanted to plan, rehearse and fly another one like the one they flew in 1991. I've never seen so many helicopters in the air in my life and probably never again.   3. His A/C was 157736. I added, Pitot covers, engine exhaust covers, and scratch built the HF antenna.

HMH-362, Ugly Angels, YL-07 This is a pic of Ugly-36, the Marine I am building this for flew YL-07 Rotor head was changed significantly as the old Revell kit only gives you the option for the Elastomeric Rotor head, or "dry head". My guy wanted it in the early version of the CH-53A/Ds, the wet head. So I had to work on making it look like the wet head.

  6. I posted this in the wrong display case, over in autos. OOPS! I have been looking around the forum for awhile now, and decided to take the plunge and post some of my CH-53 builds. I have been an avid modeler for over 40 years, but never really go into the hobby the way I should. I retired in 2018 after 33 years in DoD, 21 years active duty Marine, CH-53A/D/E crew chief, and 12 years as a DoD contractor supporting the H-53 program office in Patuxent River Maryland. In 2018 I headed home to Seattle to build airplanes with my Dad full time. We have in the barn right now, a 1942 M

  8. CH-53E's: Again, scratch built the blade fold systems, and weathered them to what I remember they looked like when I flew them and maintained them. HMH-466, YK-07
  9. Details on Ugly-07, scratch built the "wet head" rotor vice the dry head included with the kit. Also I included the squadron logo on the starboard side of the fuselage as they did in the 1970's.

  11. CH-53A/D/E crew chief here. 33 years on 53's. Skis on USMC/USN/USAF 53's were never designed into the helicopter. No need for them. The retractable landing gear on at least our USMC/USN 53's was for water landings, as well as long flights where aerodynamics may have a factor in fuel consumption, but c'mon its a 53 flying at maybe 150kts, maybe.....so getting the gear up was not a big "speed" option for us, more for water landings. When I did operations in Norway we could land in the snow with both gear up and gear down landings. 99% of the time the gear was down.
  12. AD-4N, The 53E went through a couple of paint schemes, in what felt like an afternoon!! In the 1980's when the aircraft were delivered to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) they were delivered in Medium Field Green, FS34095, with all black stenciling. Then as the aircraft went through and depot modifications through 1990, they were painted in the tri-color paint job. FS 35237 Blue Gray FS 34095 Medium Field Green FS 37038 Black with black stenciling or opposite color stencil where appropriate.   13. The Me-262 we used for our templates was from NAS Willow Grove. It belonged to the Navy, and was flown there from NAS Patuxent River, MD after flight testing. It was on display at the front gate there for years. Steve Synder, the force behind the Me-262 Project made a deal with the Navy and agreed to let us use the plane, and in turn we would restore it for a static display back at NAS Willow Grove. However the airplane did end up at Naval Aviation Museum Pensacola FL. This is A/C 35 when we finisher her here in Everett, WA. r/Gy Dan
