Ratch
I'm currently researching into this aircraft (I'd like to do it heavily battle-damaged) :) Here is a popular picture of her grounded - http://www.luftwaffe39-45.historia.nom.br/ases/bar2.jpg (I also have footage of this on DVD ) I suppose the damage at the wing root would more than likely have been caused by her crash landing Does anyone know of any more descriptive pictures of this bird
Slartibartfast
That would be "Miss Ouachita" As in the Ouachita mountains of northeastern Oklahoma/northwestern Arkansas. Pronounced "wash-ih-taw". Edited January 15, 2007 by Slartibartfast
G.R.Morrison
Re: more photos of downed "Miss Ouachita." There are several more (German) photos of this B-17F being examined by Baer, Schuhmacher and a third JG 1 pilot whose name I cannot recall just this moment. These feature the tail, top turret, etc. I believe they are in Prien, Rodeike & Stemmer's multi-volume _JG 1 und JG 11_ unit history, published by Struve (Eutin, Germany). If you wish to send along your 'snail mail' address, I'll dig them out and shoot you some photocopies. Cheers, GRM
Ratch
I have some old film footage on DVD of Baer inspecting the grounded B-17. It's not too long so I'll probably have to freeze frame it to check out for further info
