Have anyone seen the new Mach 2 Vickers Viscount 700 1/72 yet

Recommended Posts

Just woundering if anyone has seen it in the box yet?

I now the kits are ruff and Iam just about done with the RugRat Resin kit (which is real ruff also so.......) but still would like to build a few different airline versions.

Just woundering!!!!!!

I've got one inbound from the UK. I'll be happy to comment on it here unless someone else does so first....

I'd love to see some aftermarket decals for this!

The race is on who is going to get the kit first???

It's landed and taxing to the hanger!!

OK I have my left hand on the throttle ready to go to burner and run away at Mach 2!?!?

Here we go, opening the box; looks like a normal offering from these guys; opening inner plastic bag; decals look good, crisp and clear only thing that appears out of register is the cheat line around the windshield anti-glare; instructions are better than previous kits with more info, but still could use a bit more work; looking at the wing /engines sprue and it looks good , engraving not too heavy (there appears to be more [better detail] engraved lines than other Mach kits??? don't have any others handy to compare to), there are two options for prop blades square tipped and rounded, the trailing edges are quite thin but the mold has some irregularities in it and there will need to be a bit of sanding to smooth things out, the horizontal stabs are identified left or right on the sprue so one would be advised to get a Sharpie and mark the parts before removing them, there are 2 engine options one is shaped more like a barrel ( fat in the middle) and the other are more like straight cylinders, the seats for the pilots are a bit rough and very simple.

On to the other sprue, my left fuse side is cracked (easy enough to fix) and there was no great damage to the box (??), the right fuse side has a couple of rough ridges next to some panel lines (can be sanded out, but) and there is one on the r/s also, there are two styles of screens to go on the engines and one of the A style ones in my kit is short molded, there is an option for a radar nose so you just remove the existing radome and stick on the ?bigger one, the instrument panel has a bunch of holes for the instruments which will be OK considering the size of the front windows, the control yokes look quite big (2 feet wide???) don't know if this is correct?, and now the clear?? parts, well some improvement but only in the side windows. There are two options for windscreens and they are both very rough castings, in my kit one has a crack thru it so it is useless!!!

:soapbox:

With all the comments on the web about the quality of Mach's clear parts you would think that they do not have a web account?? Their kits are expensive and the clear stuff is most often of poor quality??? It's brittle so as in this kit it doesn't take much to crack, it would be nice if Mach 2 listened to their customers and put a LOT more effort into molding their clear parts!!!!

OK off the soap box.

My overall rating C, a bit better than previous offerings but still quite a bit of work to do.

If anyone wants picture advise in a reply to this and I will try to get some up tonite.

Jennings...Would be interested in TCA markings(Trans Canada Airlines, forerunner to Air Canada) as a TCA Viscount is the first plane I ever flew on...(Although I kinda dread buying another Mach 2 kit after the three Helicopters I already bought, although the Super Frelon is one of their better kits, the clear parts on the Kaman Husky really suck and the Alouette II is in the middle I guess...

Cheers

Understand - however the question is, are there several hundred other people who share the interest?

What you can't put three schemes on a sheet? A sheet with Brit, US and Cdn markings might sell a few (which is what you want of course) If I recall Glencoe did a special issue of their kit just in TCA markings so there must be some demand. The thing that scares me is having to buy decals for a Mach 2 kit, not buying the decals themselves

My plan is to build it as Canadian Dept. of Transport found a really interesting scheme on the Vickers Viscount web page.

Don't know if this link will work the page is kinda funny but the best image is #15

Guess I will need some custom work on those markings!?

An interesting idea, but (especially in 1/72) it would be a massive sheet, and massively expensive - and for a massively expensive kit. That would be a recipe for financial suicide. If it's done at all, it'll be separate sheets for BEA and United, but that's probably it. I love TCA, but I can't see it selling like hotcakes quite honestly.

I'm with ya on the Mach 2 thing, although even with all its horrible problems, my SAS sheet for their Caravelle sold out in a snap.

Hallo to you all members of ARC.

I’m new in the forum and very pleased to take part of it.

I write now for an alert: RED ALERT VISCOUNT.

Jennings, be careful to start the project of decal sheets about this model. Besides the issues that have been already described, there are other regarding the dimensions.

The fuselage is 8 mm shorter and the curvature of the bottom tail is wrong. The vertical fin is not tall enough and its chord at least 2 mm shorter towards the tip. Also the fuselage diameter is smaller 8but not so much.

The wing-fuselage fairing is in a wrong position in high (too close to the windows’ line), while its contour is beautiful but it isn’t long enough.

The wing is smaller in all dimensions except its airfoil that is too thick and wrong.

It seems to be a minor brother of the Viscount.

Jennings.. nevermind the above...based on dates in the great site that Flyboy f18 posted it may have been in Air Canada markings by the time I flew (about 1965) will have to check old family photos at my mother's place as I know there is at least one shot of plane there.

Cheers

So I'll take that as a "yes" vote for United? : )

Yeah, that's my UA DC-6A/B sheet. What a bay-atch that was to fit! Your model looks super!
