I have received some very good references from Robert Schneider in Switzerland.

I sent him a pre-production mock up casting.

Here is his first critique:

Dear Harold

Still I owe you a feedback, and I will try to do that from a modeller's

point of view (sane one if this exists).

The tub:

I think that you have captured the shape and size correctly. I like the

side consoles a lot and the area behind the ejection seat even better.

There are some details missing on the floor, but I doubt, that this

would be visible when the ejection seat is installed. Full Marks!

Details on the side walls:

The Mirage had a very narrow and cramped cockpit. On the side walls

above the side instrument panels, the airframe structure could be seen.

These frames were was a cover over the full length of the cockpit and

gave a somewhat rounded appearance. When you look at the pictures, you

will see hat I mean.

The dash board:

Lots of details... it will look very good on the model - I have not been

able to look at this detail on the real aircraft - but simply wonder if

there was so much up there - I do know that the box like appearance is

correct however - all in all a simple affair.

The front Instrument Panel:

Here I do not agree with you and I think that you have the general shape

wrong. Sorry, when I'm speaking to frankly. But this is the area the

modeller will see when the seat is in.

You will have to correct the outline a bit, but more important, the

front IP was not a flat affair. There were not too many indicators and

buttons, but some pretty large displays - two very prominent ones in the

middle between the legs - the boxes were angled downwards to enable the

pilot a better view at the display. Again, please refer to the photos.

That's also where the main difference between the fighter and the

reconnaissance version lays.

I'm keeping this comment very simple because you have the material - but

I will gladly answer, when you have specific questions. I do not intend

to confuse you with a ton of nagging at your work. In fact I admire what

you do!

Generally speaking, I think that for the Resin Cockpit, the only thing

that really needs a correction is the front instrument panel. That is

for the Mirage! You might have to do two or three versions -

reconnaissance and fighter (radar). When mentioning the radar display...

the Mirage V had no radar installed and this cockpit looks different

again - I will try to find some photos for that one too.

For the Kfir I can imagine that your presentation is OK - but I do not

have any references for this one.

The whole set will look perfect once you have the seat in.

I hope that this is what you expected. If I have not been clear it is

probably because of the language - please ask.

Best regards,

Robert

I am going to re-do a few things that will make this set more accurate. Things look different from different angles!!

The close up shots are really helpful.

First, the sidewalls are being re-done.

Second, more piping behind the seat.

Kfir C-7, I have finished that one already (still no seat) Maybe a C-2 later.

I am now working on the first Mirage III IP (fighter version).

I am having wayyy too much fun.

Harold

Wow, that looks fantastic. I have just picked up two of the 1/32 reboxings. One will be a SAAF IIIRZ the other a Cheetah D conversion. From your post it seems that you will be bringing this out as a resin update set, if so I will definatly take a few :bandhead2:

dear Harold

I saw Robert Schneider answer . His remarks are evry interesting.

What I have e seen is that the Miarge cockpit arrangement diuffers quite alot according to the version. See in ARC gallery the pics of swiss mirage recce that are quite different from Mirage IIE or V.

I you are interested i can provide you pics and info about Mirage v and the Elkan '( Belgian Mirsip used by the chilean)

get in touch trough normal e-mail fa062130@skynet.be

Thanks Bob,

Yes, you are correct.

There are so many variations of the IP and controls, I don't know which is which.

The only version that I had really good references, was the Kfir C-7. So I did that IP first.

Now, if I knew what is the "average" IIIE looks like that would be next.

Here are a few scans of the progress on the 1/32 Mirage III 'pit set that I am working on.

I reshaped the shroud on the IP.

The seat is to be the MK 6 seat, it is about half finished though. It still needs a LOT of smaller details.

Thanks Mike.

When I get a bit more done on the seat, I'll shoot you a couple. It still needs more details...
