4scourge7
I plan to model the MiG-29 Fulcrum tested and evaluatated by The Israeli Flight Test Center (MANAT). Anyone got any advice as to which 72nd kit best fits the bill? I have the old Hase kit but it just looks wrong, wrong, wrong. Assistance required and appreciated Cheers, Ian PS- Additional details are that the MiG-29 was an early `A` version and probably came from Eastern Europe, possibly the old East Germany, possibly Poland. Which kit is best? MiG novice needs to know. The Italeri kit seems to get the nod elsewhere on ARC. Edited February 2, 2009 by Ian Buick
CraigSargent
Best bet overall is a kitbash of the Airfix and Italeri kits - both have big pluses and minuses and the only way to get a really accurate one is to mix and match the two (along with some nice resin exhausts and cockpit which are readily available). Thanks Craig, and after market would be Neomega pit and ??? exhausts. Cheers, Ian

Ds Ha, real good to bump into you again Bosse! I`m in Scotland and it is bad, but we can take it, we are more used to it than Southern England, because we are so much farther North. Ian my friend.Great Choice of aircraft, what will you hang on this bird. Some new secrets weapons maybe? Maybe nothing I`m afraid. As best as I can see, from various reference, they were flown clean. But I may add another entry I`m liking your entry BTW, I`ll be gate-crashing your thread some day soon. Cheers, Ian

I read your post in General Discussion and I would like to say that there is now the good reminder of a half pint of lager on my screen. Sebastijan
As I recall, the MiG in question came from Poland - I have some pics somewhere of this bird...
CraigSargent
There were three evaluated. I have seen pics of two - one carrying Manat markings on the tail and one carrying Negev Squadron badge. Not sure about the Manat marked aircraft, but the Negev one definitely flew with underwing pylons and missiles. Not an expert on the Russian systems, but the missiles would have been Atoll or Aphid most likely. They had rectangular fixed rear fins whatever they were (visible in quite a few images of the aircraft).

Interesting stuff Sebastijan and Craig, I have pics of two but no weapons can be seen due to the angle of the pic; Red 105 and Red 115. Cheers, Ian
4scourge7
Okay, so I`m now looking at; Italeri MiG-29, Aires pit, Aires cans, and quickboost nose. To build Red 115 of MANAT. Anymore for anymore? :D Cheers all Ian
Jonathan_Lotton
I was hoping the Israeli evaluator MiG-29 would make an appearance! Very cool, cant wait to see it cook up! Welcome to the GB by the way!

If you look on page 85 in Isras Barak book (#4) you clearly see MiG RED 115 with two missiles underwing, escorted by Barak 601 and Baz 450. I'm not so familiar with Russian missiles but I think this is the Aphid??? ^_^ They have two rows of frontfins and rather rectangular backfins. Unfortunally my scanner is offline so I can't provide a copy for you. Best Regards Bosse from Sweden
Ivan T.
Excellent choice. ....imagine a Fulcrum in IAF camo.... someone has a what-if of this? Ivan
Piotrek.S.
Israeli pilots testet THREE Polish Fulcrums (no. 105, 114 and 115) for about 2 weeks. There ya go with some pictures (from Polish magazine AEROPLAN). Sory for the poor quality. Note that Polish national insignia (square) are oversprayed with diffierent shade of gray. Also 1st Figter Regiment under cockpit is oversprayed. Planes are with original Russian camo. Red numbers are in original red colour. Plane no 115 before this tests had large badge of 2nd Escadre de Chasse from French AF. During visit in Israel it was also overpainted. Edited March 3, 2009 by Piotrek.S. 4scourge7
Oh wow! Amazing pics Piotrek.S. :) Much appreciated that you shared them, thanks! My Mig is suffering credit crunch woes, I simply cannot justify £40 worth of A/Market right now, but the Italeri kit looks quite nice and I`m going ahead and building it OOB. I can get MANAT markings from sheets I have in the house. I began the Fulcrum tonight by painting wheel wells, cockpit, U/cart, etc.... Cheers all, Ian
Aggressor Supporter
Very neat information there Piotrek! Thanks for posting it.

4scourge7
Cheers Marlin. I`ve avoided TV lately(so that I wouldn`t put my boot through it) and The MiG coming along nicely. It is now camoed-up, details picked out by brush, weapons ready, and now ready for gloss varnish. Pics to follow. Cheers, Ian
