jimz66
With AM gone AGAIN, if we could get NEW molds of the following bombers in /48, who would you wish them from? B-17 B-24 B-26 A-26 B-29 Et All My vote would be Hasegawa if it weren't for their RIDICULOUS prices! So I think I'll settle for Tamiya or someone like that... That B-17 family could be well exploited by the right manufacturer.

So you'd "settle" for Tamiya..... :D :D Given the choice, Airfix for purely sentimental reasons, but yeah, Tamiya would be a good second choice I'd never be able to display more than one of any of those in 1/48 so I'd take the full strength Tamiya one, engines and all, rather than a (usually) more basic Hasegawa or Revell kit, price be damned. Ro-Gar Hobbies
Actually I think Revell or Revell Germany should redo them. They are more than capable of producing really nice kits when they spend the money and use the right mold cutters. And you know the price will be right. Any company in Asia will ask a arm and a leg for these kits. Robert

Heck, an up to date, accurate kit, with REASONABLE detail at an affordable price would be nice. Revell would be the odds on favourite. Coming from one of the colonies, I'd like to see a decent 1/48 Halifax or Hampden. Better yet, a kit of a Stirling, Blenheim or Whitley... :D Nick
B-17 guy
At this point I dont care who does NEW tool B-17's (F model and G model please) as long as this happens! However, I dont want to spend a fortune but I'm willing to pay a little more than the revell offerings. Dont get me wrong, the revell kits are still good, especially considering they are the only ones around and there tons of aftermarket detail and conversion kit for them. But it would be nice to have a nice shake and bake 48th B-17, I dont always mind the work but it'd be nice to just build and paint one OOB with GOOD detail instead of passable detail. 71roadrunner426
Could you imagine the price for a 1/48 Hasegawa B-17 from Hasegawa or Tamiya and as for Trumpeter I would have to work two jobs for a new tooled B-17 or for that fact the other bombers mentioned, just look at the price of Trumpeters C-47 when that came out, and as for Hasegawa to do a 1/48 B-17 I read in a article they would never release this kit, the reason for Boeing wanting to much money for the rights and other issues. It is a nice thought though. by the way Accurate Miniatures is not completly done, I read they are in the middle of another managerial shake up and soon will release more products Edited April 11, 2011 by 71roadrunner426
thegoodsgt
We'll probably see all of these models retooled eventually. Not this year or next, but eventually.
Aaronw
Is there really a great need? I think all of those were done by Revell and Monogram at some point. I haven't built a 1/48 kit in many years but did most of those at some point and as I recall they were pretty decent kits even by current standards.

Have to say that none of those subjects are dear enough to me to use my very limited modelling time to slog through a crappy by todays standards old Monogram kit (like the B-17), though if there was an "uber-kit" of Tamiya 1/32 Spit quality and some decent markings they would be worth a whirl. £150+ kits aren't a problem when you build as slow as I do!
