I am glad you got the parts for the scooter....let me know if ya need anything else.

Stanton

Stanton,

Thanks for stopping by and liking what I've done to date. You have plenty of time to join the Scooter GB with the Trumpeter A-4M. You can be sure that I'll be following your build from start to finish.

As I said yesterday, I can't thank you enough for those sprue tree with the refueling boom. You're what ARC is all about.

Hey Joel! Great work. I always enjoy it most when you get to decals. It's true..... I live vicariously through your builds. Haha.

-Mark

Mark,

Glad that you're enjoying my decaling adventures. It's also one of my favorite parts of any build, as you can see the model finally coming to life.

Very good work, come on! Joel! :lol:/> :thumbsup:/>

China Sunyu,

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look at my Scooter build. Yours still is the definitive build on what one should look like when done and on display.

Progress continues at my usual snail's pace.

Decaling is done except for the main struts.

I've eased up some on the weathering, since I wanted the Scooter to look like its only been on combat tour a short time, so I applied a enamel pin wash for the recessed areas, then did a oily sludge wash with Flory's Dark wash, followed by a few additional blotchy sludge washes. The top side got a lighter sludge wash application using a mix of Flory Dark and Light wash for a less dirty effect.

Once dry, I applied a protective Matt coat using Winsor & Newton's Acrylic Matt Varnish. Needless to say I'm more then just impressed. This is now my standard go to Matt medium.

You'll notice in the pictures that the canopy is on the cockpit, but not straight by any means. I just put it there and forgot about it, so I didn't loose it as I had to apply the Matt clear coat to it as well, then remove the masking. Once done, the canopy will be in the up position.

Thats a real winner Joel. I absolutely love how the paint has turned out.

Falcon20driver, Thanks for stopping by. The painting method I used is my forerunner to modified black basing. Darker primer coats for lighter color coats, and lighter primer coats for darker color coats. With the lighter Gray primer coats, I'll be using a 2nd primer coat for color variation as most plastics are already gray.

Wow Joel! The weathering looks spot on! Well done!

Dave

Dave,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm actually surprised myself as to how good the weathering turned out. I guess the old saying that less is more, really applies to my Scooter build.

Well, last night before work I was able to put the finishing touches on my A4 Skyhawk build. All that's left to do is to paint and make masks for the two drop tanks. The decals for Lady Jessie has the drop tanks done with scallops, but a few pictures of the real aircraft has the tanks painted with the same long markings that is on the electronic hump

So for now I'm going to leave the two tanks off, as I like the look of the Scooter without them, which is how a lot of A4's were parked on the tarmac.

Here's a few pictures of my finished Scooter. I'm going to do a full photo set in the Display forum so I can share my build with the rest of the ARC community.

Joel I think your photography is really crisp on this one! The scooter looks great.

Mark,

You're the 1st person that's ever commented on my photographs one way or the other. Thanks. I've been working with a two light setup, an trying to control the uneven lighting using Nikon's Capture DX2 editing program, more work then would be necessary if I go with a 3 light setup. Those background shadows in some of the pictures are real killers.

It means a great deal to me that a modeler of your caliber appreciates my efforts. Glad you really like how the Scooter turned out.

Joel,

I'm very happy of your result,a very nice model!

I like alot the subtle weathering you're achieved, well balanced.

Not a critique, but I'm almost sure that the inner part of the canopy frames was black,a quick fix for a modeler like you.But She's gorgeous anyway!!!

Cheers,

Gianni

Hey Joel! I think this photo session is really unique amongst your others and I really think the shadows add to that. I know that may not have been what you were going for but, I think they add to the interest of the photos. One has to start somewhere right!? I have a photo booth and that's it for now. I am trying to eventually purchase four ALZO's to say nothing of a camera. Looks like my cell phone will have to do for quite a while longer We are all limited with our budgets when it comes to building kits AND purchasing photography equipment to say nothing of learning how to work with the photography equipment! Haha. Some of us (namely me!) are still learning how to assemble kits! Haha. It sure feels that way sometimes (To be read as," I have had some very recent results not quite as I wanted them to be.").

I really appreciate your comment on my skill, however, I can't honestly accept that when there are so many folks here much more deserving of such an accolade. Too many to list in fact! I am still trying to earn my "street creds" here on ARC. When I have a finished model to show (and photography to match! Haha), if you still feel that way, only then could I consider accepting such a compliment. For the meantime, my sincerest thanks and I hope I can earn that kind of comment.

So... what's next? I had to ask! Haha.

Mark,

From my perspective, your work is already that good.

A for a next project, it's something that I've been thinking about for a long time, well, at least since the Revell 1/48 scale PV-1 Ventura was released. For some unknown reason, it's another one of those not front line, high profile WW11 aircraft that has grabbed my attention. Anyway, I've been collecting a lot of AM parts to correct errors, or increase the detail of the kit parts. So officially the build started yesterday late afternoon. My goals are to start with the interior 1st (gee, what a surprise that is), with the Eduard PE IP, and correct the seats to use their PE seat belts and Harness. The cockpit bulkhead opening wrong so that will be fixed. That's as far as the kit front interior goes, but with the increased size of the bulkhead opening, you should be able to see into the next compartment which is the navigator/radio compartment. I'm going to scratch out a rear bulkhead for it, a desk & chair, and a shelf with some radio equipment, but I'm not going to go crazy with detailing that really can't be seen. Past there, it's nothingness as you can't see any of it. The bomb bay is very shallow, and only holds 4 bombs. The kit does have some detail, but not much. Eduard makes a PE set for it, but at $30+ I'll do the best detailing I can with sheet and strip plastic. At 1st I was going to use the DMold bay doors in the closed position, but now I'm going to see how much I can improve the bay. Worse case scenario is it sucks, then I would just close the 4 part doors. The Turret will be detailed some with the Eduard PE and Quickboost gun barrels. I'm going to do a little detailing in the front wheel well as well. Once the fuselage is glued up, I'm come up with my plan for the wings and landing gear bays. By far this will be my most ambitious build since I've returned to the hobby.
