USAFsparkchaser
Thinking of switching to these paints and thinning with Mr leveling thinner. I want to mostly do black basing and am confused on what to use for the black. Do I just use the Mr.Color flat black, do they need a specific primer and if so what gets mixed with the primer? Mr. rapid thinner? I hear good things about MRP, but Mr color is more accessible for me.
Crash Test Dummy
Prime with Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black or any other black primer for the black basing technique. Some swear by Badger's Stynylrez, but don't order it if at any point in shipping it may freeze in the back of a delivery truck. You should use a primer under Mr. Color or with most modern paints. Lloyd_C
I have used Mr Color over Vallejo black primer without any issues
Alternative 4
16 hours ago, Crash Test Dummy said: Prime with Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black I second this. Gives a nice smooth finish which works well for black basing Mr Color with Levelling thinner is the way to go. The paint flows nicely and lays down smooth. I live in a cool coastal climate with high humidity and this is the best paint combo I have found.
