Jonathan_Lotton
According to the local paper, by 2008 Kingsley Field and the 173rd FW of the Oregon ANG is expected to be solely responcible for Active Air Force and Air National Guard training on the F-15 after Tyndall gets out of the F-15 training business. The paper quotes the commander, Col. Tom "Shoot" Schiess as saying the facility will recieve 25 additional F-15's to the 173rd, bringing it's compliment to around 40-45 F-15's. In addition, some 136 new positions are going to be added. Can anyone confirm this? if so, we're about to see alot more Eagles over Southern Oregon skies! Jonathan_Lotton
I wonder when "Raj" became "Shoot?" I dont know Murph, but both the Superscale sheet 48-1063 and one of the pilots at Kingsley refered to him as "Shoot".
David Walker
Sound like Oregon is going to be a busy place for F-15s in the near future.
nightiemission
Sound like Oregon is going to be a busy place for F-15s in the near future. It already is. From what I've heard we're supposed to have F-15's until 2025. I believe the F-15 school at Tyndall is transitioning to F-22's. Terry
klawrence
Depending on force plans, the Air Force will have between 200 and 400 F-15's for a long time in both the Active and Guard squadrons. There will at best be 180 active F-22's that won't be completed until 2010 or later. It seems like there is the need for only one training squadron of Raptor's at Tyndall. One training squadron of 18-20 planes at a large base like Tyndall doesn't make any sense.
Trigger
Is Tyndall considered a "large" base? Edited September 22, 2006 by Trigger74
Murph
Is Tyndall considered a "large" base? Trigger, Yes. It extends quite a few miles east, towards Mexico Beach, past the airfield proper. Regards, Murph

For a second, I thought you had said the 1st Fighter Wing was closing... ...well, the 1st Fighter Squadron has closed down a couple of times before. They'll be back.
GreyGhost
Tyndall (and the 325th) isn't going anywhere. The current master road map leaves 2 squadrons of F-15s at Tyndall (the 1st Fighter Squadron closes in December...look for 8 or 9 mourning threads around Thanksgiving), Waco, do you mean threads or Posts ??? :) Gregg
