Bulldog 09
Well I figure I will start posting photos of our F-14D (Buno 159600 "Christine") as I start her restoration. I will try and post as many detail shot of areas missed by most walkarounds. So let me know what you want to see and I will get the shots if possible. So first up the gun bay. I know that there are a butt load of photos of the gun bay with the gun out there but not many without it. I have also included some shots of the M61 drive gear box and the inside of the boarding ladder housing. So here you go, I hope that they help. Bulldog 09
Port bleed air door/intake bypass spill air duct topside. Hydraulic ram attachment point on intake ramp door. Notice how the lip leading onto the wing rolls up and is not a sharp edge as Hasegawa, Academy, and other manufactures portray in their kits. You will see this better in the photo taken from inside the intake. Inside port intake. Here you can see the lip leading onto the topside and the way it curves up. Please pardon the leaves, Next weekend I plan on opening this area up and cleaning it. Was going to do it this weekend but a storm is suppose to roll through. Notice the ducting running from fore and aft, and how it splits at the top (towards cockpit. Starboard side. arnobiz
Thank you so much for sharing these, and best of luck with this wonderful project! Would you be able to take pictures of the hydraulics bays that run along the spine? I would like to model these but so far, despite a lot of help from Danny Coremans I could not get pictures of the bays structure. Many thanks, Arnaud
Bulldog 09
nice pictures. can you get pictures of the jet for me. where the canopy ends and blends in with the back and can you get a pictures of between the rudders. the panels there and the whats near the beaver tail area? Here you go Sir. Panels between rudders and beaver tail. We have started stripping this area in preparation for priming and painting. I will try and remember to take photos of the antenna next to the fuel dump when I remove it to refinish it. For reference, the right side of the photos are aft and the left is forward of the aircraft. The bottom is along the port vertical stab and the top the starboard. Now the top is aft and the bottom forward. Dave Fassett Edited March 6, 2011 by Bulldog
Bulldog 09
Now the beaver tail. Next up the dorsal area and all of its goodness. Dave Fassett Edited March 6, 2011 by Bulldog
Bulldog 09
All right here we go, this is going to take a while. Next up we have the dorsal area and all that it houses, which includes but not limited to the following. Emergency hydraulic generator, central slat/flap drive motor, flight control system artificial feel units, control rods and linkages, miles of wiring, ducting, fuel lines/filters/pumps, a butt load of rigid/flexible lines, etc..... you get the picture. I was only able to get around to the first two panels but this consist of about 67 photos, so get your save finger ready. This should give you enough fuel to start that super detailed Tomcat. I will have the rest of the panels opened and photographed for this section by next weekend. First up the panel that covers bay one closest to the cockpit. This has the UHF/TACAN antenna and the GPS antenna. UHF/TACAN antenna GPS. Notice that the unit sits up on top of a reenforcement plate that is about 1/8 - 3/16" or so high, and about 7"long by 14"wide. Under side, left is front and right is aft. GPS UHF/TACAN Notice that the internal braces/ribbing are made of C channel's. On this shot the bottom is facing forward and the top aft. Bulldog 09
Now for the middle of the bay. This consist of control rods and linkages, more wiring, ducting, cables, and rigid/flexible lines. Top middle. Notice that the control rod linkage connection point are all tilted to the port side about 22-35 degrees. The cable dead center top of this photo which is over the center control rod and not connected to anything is the UHF/TACAN cable. This cable. The top of this photo is facing starboard. The top of this potos is facing forward. Top is facing starboard. Top is facing aft. Mid of middle. Top is facing forward. Top is facing port. Dave Fassett
