  1. I don't think so, I mean except for a small percentage out there, we aren't living in caves anymore, making tools from rocks and stones, painting rocks with berry juice, so there is nothing mystical and frightening. Sure, there are people out there that take it as a sign or omen, for whatever their reasons are, one guy took it as a sign to propose to his girlfriend ( he should be frightened). I think calling it that is more of an attempt to popularize it with more than just a small percentage of us that would normally care, or know it was going to happen. Bill
  2. WORD!!! I know those things can hydroplane, but that doesn't make it a ship!
  3. Here are the promised pictures, the first level of the forward super structure is ready for paint, there are going to be both colors, so I'll have to paint, let the light sea grey cure, the paint the gunship grey. After that is all cured, I can shoot with future and weather. Once THAT is finished, I'll attach the last four 40 foot swing booms, the barrels on all 8 casemate guns, and the anchors, as well as attaching the whole ship to the display base. More to follow...... Bill
  4. This was the only shot I was able to get because of the clouds, just after this a giant cloud of dark death moved in and stayed. Not from last night, but one of my favorites.
  5. I know I haven't posted in a bit, I've been in a slump, but I came out of it yesterday. All the railings are one the main deck of Warspite, and I've started the lower level of the main superstructure, I'll post some pre-painting pictures tonight when I get home. The display base is done too, I just need to go to the trophy store around the corner from my house an have a brass name plate made. Bill

  7. nice work, its so important to find a way to break up the single color on modern subs without going crazy. That is a true test of airbrushing skills and a good eye!
  8. My comments weren't directed at a certain individual, that's profiling, hench, in some cases, bombastic works since I know the meaning of it. But, if you are so insecure that you automatically assume I meant you alone, instead of a generalized statement, then you my need to go shake hands with your feelings. It's not irrelevant, it's called speculation and a lively conversation, if you don't like either of those, then I suggest you get off your high horse.....and get over it. ANYWAY, I think it would be cool also if there were options for leaving door three open with a nice representation o
  9. I don't normally post a lot unless its in the GB's, or maybe a random topic that catches my interest, and this one is one that reinforces why I don't. A simple statement was made, and an uncalled for, sarcastic, bombastic response was given. I'm well aware there are some people that equate to a product one might use on a summers eve, and this isn't the first time beating around this bush, but I just don't understand the need to be a d*@k. Anyway, I would love to see another Hornet in 48th, and I hope Kinetic knocks it out of the park. I've always wanted to build a Hornet with maintenance p
  10. Yogi-ism: When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
  11. I saw the finger print when I did it, that will be. Super easy clean up, and it's on a joint I needed to clean anyway, so I wasn't upset.
  12. That's MM dark sea blue, with 5 thin coats of future. That's also the Czech Model XF2R-1 Dark Sark, great kit for a limited run, I hope to finish it this week.
  13. I've started the forward superstructure. It's fairly straightforward on the lower portions, the upper structures have aTON of PE! More to follow..... Bill
  14. That is really mice work. I've always wanted to build Port Royal so I could use the blue anti fouling. There is a guy in my model club that works as a manager in the shipyard, he says the blue stuff is useless if the ship steams under a certain speed.
  15. That's a sharp lookin shark!! As far as the Type 45, I tied one on with a bunch of RN guys from HMS Defender at the Chiefs Club in Bahrain a while back, we traded coins. What a stand up bunch of guys! We taught them how to play shuffle board, and they taught us how to make to many drinking rules to play it!
  16. We've been underway for two and a half months, and there are lots of great things going on. Please stop by and check out our GB, and if you feel the urge, join in!
  17. I really hope that this GB is breaking misconceptions about ship building, at least based on the number of new shipmates that have joined in, stating that this is their first ship build, at least in a very long time, and seeing how easy it really is to achieve a very detailed product. True, depending on scale, ship models can hold a very impressive amount of seat ail, and the is almost an overwhelming amount of AM out the, but truth be told, it's no harder than aircraft modeling, but in my opinion, much more rewarding. I know this will start fires, but if you've modeled 20 P-51's you've mode
  18. Friday is the Military only day, active and reserves welcome. I'll be working at the CVW-8 tent Sunday from 1000-1300, stop by!
  19. I meant photo etch, I was just to lazy to type photo
  20. Thanks for the words guys, I'm pushing to finish the main deck, its kind boring work, and that small stuff doesn't seem to make it look like the ship is getting bigger. I'm excited to start building up. I have the main pieces of the forward superstructure built up somewhat, but there is still a lot of clean up and etch work to do on those, so they are on hold till the deck is clean.
  21. But when you hit the Michigan state line, it goes from corn and cops in Ohio, to trees and potholes in Michigan!
