  1. I was over there in 08 on the lincoln, and in CAG 2 we had VFA-2 Bounty Hunters and VFA-137 Kestrels (Flying Buttcheeks). Most of the squadrons here at Oceana have transitioned, the only charlie squadrons left are 34 (my old haunt), 37, 87, 131, and 106 C/D side. Crew names are on the A/C. All the super squadrons have deployed
  2. I'm in 106, we have damn near everything, mostly C,D,E,F, but there are a few A+, and a bravo or two
  3. Last time I was over there we strafed on a regular basis, and that was in 08
  4. Well, with 20mm firing at 5000 thousand rounds a minute, I guess you just have to be close
  5. I was in the Gulf of Oman in 08 for about 6 months, and my squadron alone made 23 strafing runs along with some serious exlosions, as a matter of fact our motto when I was that squadron was "have gun.....will travel"
  6. All good suggestions, thanks, I think I'm just gonna "show off" my completed stuff, then start posting, start to finish progress photos of my new stuff
  7. Is there a way to make a personal photo gallery of my completed projects on my profile here?
  8. I'll check that site, I found some brass bushings at work, they look good but are kind of short
  9. good call on that website. I have a feeling I should have taken a break for a few weeks then stuck with planes, this ship looks like a photo etch monster, oh well, it'll be a plesant change of pace. Does anyone know where the ship guys get those nice brass stands??
  10. odd question for aircraft resource center, but has anyone built the Acadamy Graf Spee premium edition, I'm taking a plane break after a Trumpeter Su-15 seam nightmare and want to know if there are any "suprises"
  11. gbu's aren't quite as heavy as jdam, and those are much older markings, the bull looks like it is missing some "parts" with would time it to around 1999 or 2000, they operate out of the hanger next to me, they also have aim-9m, usually now its aim-9x. I'll see if I can scan some pictures from my last cruise in 08 for you, although its in 34 not 37.
  12. For the jets going in country they typically a aim-9x on station 1, no pylon on 2, jdam on 3, flir on 4, tanks on 5 and 7, 6 empty, no pylon on 8, and a aim-9x on 9
  13. I've done three combat cruises with hornets and have never seen one go in country with 3 drop tanks, they go in double bubble and tank from the airforce
  14. When an F-18 goes weight off wheels, the droptanks transfer automatically, and are almost always the first to empty unless there is something not working right inside the tank. An empty FPU-8A only weighs 299 pounds empty so the weight doesn't really affect areodynamics that much, and all this is account for by the weight and balance officer. What weight or drag that is affected is controlled automatically by the flight control computers. The main reason for flying double ugly instead of double ugly is that hanging that heavy of a weapons load on an outboard station is too much stress on th
  15. Way to go Eh Team!!! We play ball hockey every saturday on a tennis court at a middle school, occasionally the cops stop and watch, not that big of a deal
  16. I work on supers, and I can tell you the kick panels on the sides, and cockpit walls above the consoles, and the rear bulkead behind the seats are grey, the switch boxes on the consoles themselves are black
  17. Its actually very easy to see all the way down the intakes during the day, they are grey for about the first foot and a half, then go to a high gloss white
  18. I've been to both of those places, when I was in 34 we had to get on the boat at North Island. I worked with the canadians for two week in Key West about 7 years ago, dont remember which squadron though
  19. what squadrons, I've been at 136, SFWD Fallon, 34, and now 106 E/F
  20. I've been a Hornet mechanic for about 12 years, to answer your question, the F/A-18 A/B/C/D models have a speed brake between the vertical stabs that is extended and retracted hydraulically. Starting on the E/F/G series the speed brake was moved to the aft end of the left and right LEX just in front of the wing root. Hope this answers your question.
