  1. For the red patches, I cut a strip of Tamiya tape into small squares with aid of a straight edge. Next, I put the squares in place over the gun ports, and then painted them with a fine brush.
  2. To mask the canopy, I used Tamiya tape carefully trimmed to the frame edges. I also layed the edge of the tape to the frame edges where I could. Thanks everyone for the comments.
  3. Hello, Even though it's late, i got my Tamiya spit done. I never got to start the He-111. Here are some shots for the gallery:

  5. Hello, I've been eyeballing this GB for some time. I have an Ertl F-15 Satelite Killer kit which has the original spoked wheels and crappy afterburner cans. Where can I find later model wheels and better cans? I could not find wheels in Squadron or Meteor Productions. Thanks.
  6. I've built the Academy Hellcat, and I was quite happy with the results. However, if you want to build the -3 version, you have to cut out the window behind the canopy which can be a bit tricky. Other than that, I recommend it.
  7. 1/7/06 Update: I've attached the canopy, tail wheel, and bits to the bottom. It has been given a bath in water and Palmolive, and is drying at this time. Then it's to the paint shop. I am back in Cherry Point, so I will not be able to post pictures at this time. I will post some in the future. Take care.
  8. New Years Update: the fuselage has been closed up. Also the lower wing and tail has been added. that is the lower wing off of an Airfix Hurricane that it's sitting on. It's being rescribed for another entry. I'll get it entered soon.
  9. It would be great to see. If I don't make it back from Cherry Point in time for the meeting, I'll see it in the next newsletter. Looking good.
  10. Finally, here is the cockpit/seat/instrument panel itself. I'll post more pics soon. Thanks for looking.
  11. As requested, here are some photos of my progressd. I'll first start with the sprues:
  12. Like I said before, you are not a part of the groupbuild....you are the groupbuild! Looking good there. Steve (wishing he could crank them out like that)
  13. Hello, It's been a while since I was last on here. I am currently on travel to Cherry Point where I'll be for the most of this and next month. However, it has not stopped me from starting my Spitfire for the build. I smuggled down some paints, glue, and tools as well. The cockpit and fuselage is partially assembled. Things are slow because I am working on a Revell Hurricane and an Airfix tempest (not related to the build) also. On top of that, I found a hobby shop down here where I picked up a M4 Sherman tank. I have been taking pictures of the build, but cannot download them from
  14. Looks great! Did your 1/72 kit come with windows or were the fuselage halves clear plastis? I also have the 1/72 Hobbycraft Beaver, but both fuselage halves are light grey plastic. The paint guide also calls for the windows (engraved outlines) to be painted black. A funny thing about this is that the instructions still has the cabin interior painted and installed (kind of pointless). Thanks.
  15. Thanks for the information. I will go out and look for the color tomorrow.
  16. Hello, I've started work on the Revell 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf-109 G-10. I plan to build it as shown on the box (and page 45 of Squadron's "Messerschmitt Bf 109 in Action Pt 2), but with corrections/detailing (lowered flaps, resin cockpit, and long tail wheel. My question has to deal with the paint colors used. The kit instructions call for dark green, light blue and brown. In the book, it states "..late -war 109 camouflage pattwern using colors 76/81/82 (RML)." Model master RML 76 and 82 will be used for the light blue and bark green. However, I got a jar of RML 81 and it is grey
  17. 46 109s! :o I can help with a Tamiya Spit. How do those Airfix Spitfires build?
  18. I'll start off with my Buffalo. It was brush-painted with polly scale acrylics and MM enamels. The two-colored underside was different, and I liked it because of that. During the build, part of the landing gear spindle on the port (black) side broke off and was lost. I replaced it with one scratchbuilt with styrene rod stock. I liked working with the multi-colored parts. They are a change from that endless sea of light grey kits. Here's the port side:
