  1. Hello all While waiting for decals and parts for the 144 stack I started to work on the Tamiya Shuttle wreck I bought 2nd hand for just 8EUR. The model practically fell apart since the previous builder (thank god) had pre-painted all the parts and was using a crappy glue and sparsely. 30 min and all parts were in the box.
  2. ...yes, the Shapeway stuff is expensive. Part of the expense though is the design itself. I am sure the 3 engines could be designed stuck inside each other with small pins to hold them apart like ice cream cubes...and that would bring the price for a set of three right down. I have the Real Space 1/144 engines and they are very nice, no bubbles at all. In 1/32 scale there is also a set from Fischer Models that looks good...to my novice eye. I am also concidering the AMP windows...I know Hotdog had issues with them being too big at first but that was a couple of years ago and apperantly t
  3. Thanks Hotdog... About the engines...what is wrong about those, please? https://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.strato.de%2FWebRoot%2FStore7%2FShops%2F243845%2F56D0%2F103A%2F0F6D%2F6BCC%2FA6F4%2FC0A8%2F2AB9%2F1BF1%2FSSME72.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fshop.strato.de%2Fepages%2F243845.sf%2Fde_DE%2F%3FObjectPath%3D%2FShops%2F243845%2FProducts%2F%22M%2B482%22&docid=ju64CO8Wge1ZHM&tbnid=4FAlm3xB4FpY0M%3A&vet=10ahUKEwiUso-H0NDZAhXOyaQKHQvVC4UQMwheKBcwFw..i&w=750&h=525&itg=1&client=firefox-b&bih=910&biw=1892&q=real spa
  4. Hi Pete I also just found this doc on the web...which explaines a lot. https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwid2tfGidDZAhWPDuwKHdd-BxIQFggrMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ninfinger.org%2Fmodels%2Fvault2006%2F172%20shuttle%20kit%20comparison%20excerpt.doc&usg=AOvVaw2i1RYhygaZXbn-AwVd0b2f So Monogram it is with AM parts like engines and the windows... cheers Uwe
  5. Hello all I have been reading about the two large shuttles but have not found a pro/con on each of them nor an in depth review on which one is the more accurat representation. I did read the Monogram one has an issue with the wing profile (?) but no details. is there a good review around, one of those rivet counter/hait splitter ones? I have a Mongram one coming and was wondering if shopping for a 2nd hand Revell or ordering spares from Revell (easy in Germany) should be looked at. thanks a lot Uwe
  6. Hi all My access problem is sloved...no clue why I could not log on this morning. Anyway...with my Hotdog decal sets being in production my tension rises...and to feed the need in me I am looking around for pics...like that one Expand to full resolution and enjoy... cheers Uwe
  7. ..." Which would make sense for the Airfix tank since it is tapered "... which I guess is not correct for the ET? thanks Uwe
  8. ...standing by then until those will be available... :-) As I said, I am not in a hurry with the 1/72 one. cheers Uwe
  9. Hi Pete I was not looking at using the Warbird tiles on the 1/100 shuttle...I just spotted them in 1/72 and there at least the tile size looks ok... For the big shuttle and in general I will use what ever is best. Unfortunately those tile decal sets vary in availability. For the Tamiya shuttle I am going to use set of Hot Dog. cheers Uwe
  10. Due to the lack of pictures...what is the best way to represent the radiators on the inside of the cargo bay doors? In the kit there are two parts on each door in chrome plated plastic. On photos I see 4 panels per door. How did you guys do that? I am thinking Evergreen pre-engraved poly sheet covered with Alcald 2 chrome. thanks Uwe
  11. Thanks Pete...! I am just checking around and came across the Warbird decals in 1/72. In that scale, at least on the pictures, it looks like the tiles have about the right size...much better then on their 144 set which has huge tiles that look ugly. What do the experts say? thanks Uwe
  12. Hello all Unplanned things happen often they say...well that happend yesterday. I bought a Monogram 72scale shuttle orbitor kit, unstarted, complete, for 24EUR! That's the 4th shuttle in two weeks...with only the new Hasegawa/Huble and the 144 Dragon one being planned. The Tamiya one came from a scrap yard so to say and now that! :-) I have no plan to build it anytime soon, have other stuff on the bench still, but I am collecting infos now. AM stuff, what is there, what should be bought, etc...so any input is more then welcome. cheers Uwe
  13. Hello Hotdog, all Any chance of getting the pictures fixed in this threat? I now use this program for my pics, works like a charm... http://postimages.org cheers Uwe
  14. Hi all Related but not a model question...Have the IMAX movies around the Space Shuttle been released on Blue Ray already? I know of DVD releases but I also know that DVD does not do the IMAX formal justice... A "liitle" teaser is this:
  15. I was lucky this week and got a pre-built Tamiya shuttle for 8 EUR! When it arrived I was even happier seeing that the original builder had not been too experianced yet. All parts had been pre-painted with a brush but that also meant that the glue did not stick. I was able to take the shuttle apart in about 30min. Now the parts are waiting for a bath in "Drano" to remove the paint. The latest Tamiya edition decal sheet I can get from a model shop here and maybe also the new sprue H with the updated parts. On the downside...I am missing one main engine! If the restauration goes along well I may
  16. ...sounds familiar...doesn't it? I will buy it when it is available...
  17. I was in a Lego shop today...119EUR for the S-5...but I was able to resist, so far! ;-) cheers Uwe
  18. That tiedown part looks great and it also looks simply enogh to make a mold from it and cast it in resin...:-) cheers Uwe
  19. Hello guys... Today the postman brought a 1/72 Apollo 10 kit from Dragon. Bought it 2nd hand since it is sold out over here...was also cheaper then new! :-) Now I have that itching...it would be really cool to have the rest of the rocket as well! I have been looking around and the cheapest base kit is the Skylab S5 which, if I interprete the pics correctly has a 3rd stage all the way up to where the Apollo 10 kit starts. The Skylab section I read is crap anyway...so no loss. I could potentially get the rocket for around 130EUR...maybe less if I hang in there and wait for a 2nd
  20. Looks very nice so far! I also still have "Miss Molly" decals for a future build... The pics you posted show "Miss Molly" when the plane and the lady met. There were no weapons on board at all at that event and if it was my build I would portray the plane just like that... cheers Uwe
  21. A new tool (and this time correct) CSM and LM are more then due, especially for next year. 48 or better 32 would be great and please let it be a major player...like Tamiya! cheers Uwe
  22. ...same here...it's really a shame to see what oppotunities Dragon missed. The time and money spend on doing it right is not more then doing it wrong. It's a masive failure on motivation and/or mental power that led to such 3rd class results. My hope is that Airfix will follow their re-newal policies and will come up with a new tool S5 and S1B and maybe a new LM for the 50th anniversarry. Fingers crossed...;-) cheers Uwe
  23. Yes...thats about right. A very early Gemini version. You can tell by the wrong widow cut outs in the capsule body. But it's nice and big...I still have my toy from way back when I was young! ;-)
  24. WTF happend? I did not do that slide bar thing... :-(
