Who made Swordfish kits besides Matchbox & Frog

Recommended Posts

I bought a Matchbox Swordfish kit from a vendor on the weekend, and inside

the box was about 3/4 of another kit that looks like a Swordfish.

However, this mystery kit was not a Matchbox nor a Frog/Novo Swordfish.

Anyone know who else made one? Airfix?

Thanks in advance

The Smer kit is an absolute shocker and one to stay away from. The current Queen is the Tamiya one which builds into a fine replicata with either floats or wheels.

Out of the 1:72 choice, the Matchbox kit is better IMHO.

Thanks everyone for the info. I fogot to add I was referring 1/72.

I guess the mystery kit must be the Airfix kit or the Revell kit. It is molded

in white plastic and appears to not have a noticeable place where one glues

the "thingy strut" that connects the fuselage side to the top of the lower wing.

Doesn't really matter.

The Matchbox and the Revell kit are the same.

Airfix made a Swordfish too, but the best quality in 1:72 was the old FROG kit, comes later as NOVO or Eastern Express.

Eduard used this kit for a high tech version.

The earlier Airfix mouldings were in white plastic, more recently it has probably been issued in grey plastic. My Revell sample came in grey. I have a Frog spawn Swordfish - Co-operativa - that came with lots of nice PE and resin bits.

I know we're talking 1/72 here, but, as the Tamiya and Smer kits were brought up, I must point out the MDC all resin kit in 1/48. This is in my opinion, the best Swordfish kit ever. Beats the Tamiya hands down in fidelity of scale and detail.

I'll go back to sleep now . . .
