Alonzo Fonzo
Hi! I´d like to join this GB with a 1/48 SBD-5 from Italeri. I think it will be an OOB build, I only plan to add PE seatbelts. I think you all know the standard Tri-Color SBD´s so I am building something different like a weather plane from NAS Jacksonville in spring 1945 in NMF: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SBD...nville_1945.jpg It would be great if anyone has more information about this plane, Looking forward to an enjoyable GB! Fuji
I am so wanting to get back to WWII and put jets on the back burner for a while. SBD, Helldiver, and Avenger are on my wants list. What's the history of this kit?
Alonzo Fonzo
I am so wanting to get back to WWII and put jets on the back burner for a while. SBD, Helldiver, and Avenger are on my wants list. What's the history of this kit? The Italeri kit is a 2008 reboxing of the very well detailed Accurate Miniatures SBD-5, with an additional bonus: a big decal sheet (5 different planes USN, USAAF, 2 French, NZ). It´s also cheaper than the original release.
Alonzo Fonzo
I started with the cockpit painting: Next photos will show the completed cockpit
mlicari
I have the AM SBD-2 kit in the stash...it's a great looking kit, so I'm sure the -5 kit is great too. I like the choice of markings you made. Will be unique! Nice work on the cockpit so far! Mike
Ken Middleton
very nice choice - I really like those aircraft with the greenhouse canopies
dahut
I thought it was interesting when you commented that the Italeri kit was cheaper than the original AM issue. Italeri hasn't been much for reducing prices on their reissues, at least not in my experience. This is no differnt. I found several BIN's on ebay, all between $35 and $50. Some of the AM kits were cheaper, in fact. Scale Hobbyist has them NIB, as follows: Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale MSRP $50.00 $35.69 Hasegawa Models 1/48 scale MSRP $38.89 $26.19 Italeri Models 1/48 scale MSRP $64.00 $43.19 Im wondering now where you got an Italeri Dauntless on the cheap? Im wondering now where you got an Italeri Dauntless on the cheap? I think Italeri's prices in Europe are competitive, unlike here in the US. Mike
Alonzo Fonzo
I think Italeri's prices in Europe are competitive, unlike here in the US.Mike Yes you are right. You can buy the Italeri kit at around 25€ =34$ here in europe. Accurate Miniatures kits were always more expensive and very hard to obtain here in Austria.
HOLMES
Alonzo Good clean start with your cockpit.. Nice! HOLMES

Alonzo Fonzo
Thanks! Today I finished the cockpit: I assume the brownings were removed on this particular aircraft. The radio/gunner area looked empty without the guns. Therefor I decided to add a pilot figure ;-)
mlicari
<packs up modeling supplies and quits hobby> Wow! That looks great! Mike

Alonzo Fonzo
Pretty swank, Alonzo. Looks well rendered. Had you considered a drop of gloss on the goggle lenses? There is already some Vallejo Color gloss on the lenses. I think I will add some more! Thanks for the tip I didn´t noticed the flat look!
Alonzo Fonzo
I completed the engine and the strange framework on the wing of the Jacksonville SBD:
mlicari
Nice work! Those AM kits are a challenge but have amazing details. I like how yours is coming along! Mike Edited December 4, 2010 by mlicari
Fuji
Nicely done - can't wait to see this rare bird finished
Alonzo Fonzo
A small update: I finished the assembly of the main parts. I used a lot of putty in the wing root area (almost 1mm gap) The model is now ready for the silver finish over the gloss dark grey base color.
Alonzo Fonzo
Most of the aluminium color is on the aircraft, some panels need a little rework
