hick3dlai
these are some of the pics i have from my time in dessert storm. one thing to note if your doing a model based on one of these vehicles, 4 were factory green with the CARC paint and 4 were tan. the green ones were repainted with donated house paint at the late stages of desert shield. i have more pics on photobucket and will be posting more and ready to explain things and answer questions to help build the most accurate models possible. http://s1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc470/...;cpZZ1QQtppZZ28

I based mine on a few pictures I found showing them in the standard NATO camo. WELL TO THE BEST OF MY MEMORY I BELIEVE IT WAS LATE NOV EARLY DEC. WHEN WE GOT THE SEMI FLAT HOUSE PAINT FROM SHERWIN WILLIAMS I DO BELIEVE.IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE THE VEHICLES THAT WERE CARCED IN TAN FROM THE ONES WE PAINTED TAN. THE HOUSE PAINT WEATHERED OFF FROM USE ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. THE REGULAR TAN ONES JUST LOOKED TAN ALL THE TIME. THE GREEN ONES WOULD BE THE HARDER ONES TO MAKE LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINALS BUT WOULD BE WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. I AM GOING THROUGH ALL MY PICS NOW AND LABELING THEM AND I HAVE SOEM OF MY FELLOW TOWS HELPING ME OUT SO WE CAN GET THIS GROUP ALL THE COORECT INFO WE CAN. There are a few techniques that could work with that.
hick3dlai
i think i might try to do one myself. i have more pics of my veh. and lopez's feeble. if you notice the different colored hubs on the front four wheels that usually indicated a bent strut was replaced at some time, and thats usually a story to go with it. they just dont bend on their own.... we had one on our because i had to obey a direct order from a not so bright captain who would not listen to anyone other than his ego. the same captain that had to cross the line in his own lav-25 because it had a sharks mouth on it instead of just using another one for the invasion. he had his lav-25 towed by another one... that was so insanly stupid. anyhow no one got hurt. i wonder if anyone here knows any of the first lai tows??? Sounds like it would be a good challenge to try and replicate. There are a few techniques that could work with that.

Charlie Cheetah
I can tell there must be lots of stories to go with those pics... Was that a sink hole that "Dude" got caught in? http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc470/...6153/img162.jpg http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc470/...53/img170-1.jpg Trumpeter also has a kit of the LAV-R, would be neat to paint it up in desert camo like this one. http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc470/...6153/img002.jpg And what is the purpose of the vertical bar in front of the driver's hatch? There is another ahead of the turret. I was thinking while building the kit that they were cable cutters http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc470/...6153/img118.jpg
hick3dlai
Your right those are wire cutters kinda they are not sharp but they would keep tow wire from cutting crewmembers you can see closer on some of tje new pics I posted. Glad to answer your questions keep em coming in those pics we were practicing driving with just the vision blocks like in combat. but as we were pulling into the assembly area, sgt cook our section leader was up and could see everything so we would not run over anyone accidentally. well he saw this pit they dug for trash, and guided his driver to drive right next to it. and since i had to remain in tight formation to his right, i ended up in the hole. he got a big laugh from us driving into the trash hole. if you look at the pic you can see his vehicle track on the left side of the hole. that was pretty embarrasing. and inside the vehicle we could not see it at all. one second we were driving along the next we felt like we were about to flip over. a quick stop for sure.
