JohnS
I'm looking for ideas on how to weather black resin modern aircraft tires. I have a set of 1/48 Wheelliant weighted tires. The black resin is smooth and shiny. I'm considering sanding the treads (the black resin turns grey with sanding) and/or using black or brown washes to tone down the shine. Does anyone have any additional tips on weathering this type of tire? Thanks.
Crazy Snap Captain
Hit it with some Tamiya Flat Clear as well. That'll knock down the shine significantly.
phasephantomphixer
Yep, treat them as if plastic. Another benefit over rubber/nylon!
Fly-n-hi
Just airbrush some lighter grey on the treads.
thegoodsgt
Simply paint it, using a shade of black suitable to what you see on actual tires. Steven Brown Scale Model Soup
f14tomcat
I use MM Raw Umber for tires. Wayne
JohnS
Thanks guys for your advice. Well, here's my first attempt at painting the tires. I painted a mixture of gunship grey & flat black on the tread area and then coated the whole tire with matt clear. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion regarding how the tires look.
